96 Mustang Brakesdward110 01-21-2006, 03:37 PM I have a 96 GT Mustang. At high speed when I need to stop quickly in an emergency I have to push the brake pedal as hard as I can to get it the car to stop. At normal speeds I need to push the pedal harder than I think I should have to. I've compared how hard it is to push relative to my Chevy Venture and Jetta and the Mustang needs to be pushed much harder. It's been like this for a while. I recently put new front brakes on the front including turning thr rotors. Thanks KimMG 01-30-2006, 01:37 AM Check the brake booster. It may have a vacuum leak. dward110 02-03-2006, 11:26 PM This is a 96 GT Mustang. Does it have a vacuum line going to the power boost? I think the boost has two or so hydraulic lines but I didn't see a vacuum line. Thanks for the reply. If you are still having the problem after that, I'd start by checking the level of the power steering fluid to make sure there is enough in there to assist the brake system. FYI, Ford has discontinued the hydro-boost and you can no longer get them from Ford now...have to order an aftermarket unit or get one out of a wrecked car at the junk yard if you have problems with it.
