heya, i'm rebuilding my ca18det motor very soon, but i am confused about what turbo to use, and what compression ratio's to use etc.

my aim hp is 260-300rwhp
JE forged pistons (84x83.7mm)
Shotpeened rods
balanced crank
fmic
550cc inj + z32 afm

Cams?
Valve springs?
3 angle valves?
turbo?

i was thinking a hks gt2535.. would i be wrong in this selection? too much lag?

i'm unsure of what to do... any help would be fantastic!
btw our best fuel here is 98ron.

I would expect the 2535 with a .6 turbine A/R to work well, should have similar lag to standard as it is BB and not overly large. a GTiR turbo might be a good cheaper option but it will definately have more lag and make less power than a 2535.

8.3:1 seems to be a popular comp. ratio, not too much below standard but enough to allow for some extra boost.

I have a 4wd CA18DET with a T3 on it, its laggy but fun, good luck with yours.

why 8.3? why not 8:1? =)

you shouldn't need that much boost, but its always good to have options i guess.
seriously though a good example is the 2.2 jun motor, sure its strong internally but it runs huge boost, makes huge power and runs 8.3:1 compression.

point taken =) i'll be using a 8.3:1 ratio.. ordered them last week.. ta

but in japan they have 101 octane fuel? here we have 98 =)

yeah, thats true about the fuel. in my opinion 8.3 should be fine for the power you want and keep it pretty streetable. with any luck you'll end up making more than that anyway.
you may actually want a bigger turbo housing than i suggested (.8 A/R). what do the locals use? there must be a few modded S13s kicking around Aussie:cool:

there are some sr's with t88-34d's =)

umm an sr with some IHI thing from a series 5 rx7

ummm.. other ca's in aus?

td06-25G's =)

no semi middle average ca's =(

i have some options tho from HKS

a HKS gt2535 0.64 a/r
a HKS gt2535 0.82 a/r
or a HKS gt2535R which i'm unsure of the specs

the 35 w/ the 0.82 sounds like the goer for me tho =) plenty of HP from one of those!

300rwhp is streetable =) i hope.. i'm also unsure about cams, port/polishing.. any help would be great!

a port/polish has got to help, there's a guy somewhere in Aus with a really good rep. but its not cheap.

I have a ca18det but it seems to have a really loud knocking sound coming from the engine.....i was told the previous owner drove it for a while without water and oil...what might be the problem and is it rebuildable?

big end bearing...

dont drive the car, it'll throw a rod or something.. or damadge something big time.. take it to a mechanic, or take the motor out and rebuild him =)
