(http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=29)I have a 97 Grand Cherokee with 87K. About 5 months ago at 81k, I had my transmission rebuilt because it wouldn't shift into 4th. I would be driving down the interstate at 60mph with the engine at 3000rpm. The rebuild worked for about 2 months and now it won't shift to 4th in the morning usually when it is cold 40 (degrees or lower). It doesn't do it everyday only 1 or 2 times a week. But if I pull off the road turn the car off and start it up again it works perfectly. I just had the fluid and filter changed again last week and still problems. Any suggestions?

Have you noticed if the O/D OFF light was on when this happens?

If so, it is because your tranny is overheating, the TCM shuts down overdrive when the tranny overheats to help it cool. Also make sure your O/D OFF light is working.

It will do it when the car is first started before anything has heated up. It shifts properly any other time of the day. I have no warning lights that come at any point.
