89 F-250 Stalls

I have a problem - the truck will start, idles fine. When I turn the wheel to the right it stalls. When driving, I turn the blower on for the heat or turn the radio on and the voltage meter slowly starts to drop. When I come to a stop the truck stalls and voltage meter is low. Sometimes it starts back up with a jump, sometimes it doesn't. It happens more often in cold weather. Sometimes I have to jump it just to start it. I've already replaced the battery once and the alternator twice. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks! :banghead:

I would take the truck to any auto parts store and have the battery, starting and charging system tested. I know that you said that you just had them replaced, but i have had bad ones right off the shelf. Hope this helps.

Check your alternator at checker, its free. If its bad make sure you get a lifetime alt and have them test the new one before you go home, sometimes even a new one is bad.....

Check the voltage coming out ot the alternator. Use a voltmeter place one lead on the fat alternator wire and the other on the alternator case, you should have around 13.5-14.5 volts with the engine running. Now measure the voltage across your battery terminals. It should be pretty close the voltage you measured at the alternator. If there is significant difference in the voltage you have a bad wire or a bad connection. To find where you are loosing voltage you can place one lead at one end of a wire and the other lead at the other end of the wire. The value that is displayed is the amount of voltage that is dropped over the wire. Anything over about .2 volts is too much. For example you place one lead on negative battery terminal and the other on the engine block. The value displayed is the voltage drop through the battery connection, through the wire and at the connection with the block. You want to try this with a good load on the alternator, headlights, ac/heater, blower motor, basically everything you can turn on without the engine dieing.

I agree with Crasen, My 87 Bronco has croded the wires between the alternator and battery twice in 7 years.

Thank You All. I had the alternator and battery tested. They check out ok. I had taken the truck to a shop. He said it was running on only five cylinders. The power steering pump would draw too much power while making a hard turn causing the truck to stall.
