nice, somewhat quick, moddable, easy to find, (asian) rwd cars?

k well i really want a new car (an mr2 or a 240sx preferably) but i cant find to many around here in missouri, so what are some other cars that are rwd, have alot of upgradablity, pretty quick and are easy to find and somewhat cheap?

id prefer an asian car but ya...whatever, so ya what are some good cars?

im guessing under 6000, possibly $8000

240's require a good amount of mods to be a bad ass car. mr2's are good.

maybe an older supra, 3000gt, pr a on older miata. i miata would be good. theyre cheap. reliable, and the weight ratios are almost perfect (front-back) only problem is tht theyre kinda of a bi*ch car.

What happened to the MR2 you found before??

What about an RX-7, or old Mustang, it may be domestic, but its nice, quick, moddable, VERY easy to find, and rwd.

i dont like mustangs, just i dunno, i dont like em lol

id love an rx7 or a supra, but there not too common

the mr2 i found, for 1k !! its that cheap because the dude wrecked it, but rebuilt everything and its all fixed and not on the insurance record, and all he had to do last time i talked to my friend he said he needed to install a 25 dollar fender he already had

ive been trying to look at it, ive gone 3 times but the dude is either never there, or he sold it already

In that price range you would be looking at a pre-93 supra or RX7. The Supra has tons of potential. You can get a straight bodied car in the $2k range and drop $6k into the engine. I've heard of 500+ HP cars in that sort of price range. And the engine will remain bullet proof.

The RX7 will always have reliability issues. The supras are really easy to find, the rx7s are a bit harder but still pretty easy.

Bboy_Jon
01-17-2006, 11:06 PM
ehh theres not many supras in any of the ads (well none actually) that are within like 200 miles

anyways i talked to my friend and he goes to car auctions in stl and KC and stuff and they buy cars there alot and sell em for more, most have problems (big and small) but his dad owns a shop and they know how to fix it all

ex: they bought a grand am like 03 or somethin, for 200 bucks, had a slight transmission prob, and they fixed it right up and sold for like 3k or somethin

and ya he was telling me how he knows of a 91-92 (older body style) prelude, with 4wd and all wheel steering, and its J SPEC!!!! turbo too, u know hwo sweet it would be to be the only dude at school with a left side wheel? i dont like the old preludes looks but shit for only 1800 and jspec and AWD i dont care!!

and he has a bunch of integras, and stuff, i asked him to look for a 240 or any other rwd asian import and he said he can fix it up for me (they usually have dents or fucked up motors but he can fix it)

there was an mr2 for like 200 but the engine was blown and he can get a mr2 engine for like 250! he bought one and its in his ford festiva right now, so ya

he said he goes to the auctioons on wed, friday and sunday and tuesday to sell, so hopefully hell find me something tomorow

drdisque
01-18-2006, 01:04 AM
there were no AWD Preludes

most of the cars at those auctions are utter crap.

harrymay
01-18-2006, 06:45 AM
dont buy from an auction, the cars are either complete pieces of shit that dealers took on trade, or theyve been wrecked.

rx7's are good, but the older ones have serious reliability issues. id still say a miata, theyre pretty quick stock, but there are things you can do.

Bboy_Jon
01-18-2006, 04:40 PM
well he said its awd, he didnt say it was STOCK

and if u dint read the post, the dude fixes all the cars he buys and sells them for a shit load more than he buys em for

im pretty sure i said THEY ALL have problems, (some major some have minor) but the dude is able to fix all of em,

anyways my friend also has a 2001 wrx sti for 1800, hows that?

Chad82
01-18-2006, 07:06 PM
in the US the WRX didn't come out until 2002 and the STI wasn't available until 2004...

Bboy_Jon
01-18-2006, 11:16 PM
ya i was looking it up on edmunds before i posted and didnt see any sti's but i still felt like posting

anyways, it was sold already

he said his friend has a 96 240sx, with a brand new motor, some in line thing or somethin which is similar to skyline motors for 2500, im probly gonna look at it tomorow

harrymay

do you actually know what your talking about? "some inline thing"??? its an inline 6, then youve got an inline 4, thats your typical everyday 4 cylinder motor. honestly man, i would hold your ground, and dont go with anything modded that is that cheap, you will either die or find out that you are driving a stolen car. the motor alone costs 2500 if it is from an r34.

i think these people might be pulling your chain, there is a market for that car, and that engine and if its a descent car they will sell it for way more. also if this is the guy that is buying these cheap and repairing them and selling them for more, they probably carry a salvage title and are way too high in miles.

BTW how old are you???

Bboy_Jon
01-19-2006, 03:39 PM
there not high in miles, there usually <120k

im 16, im not just gonna go and buy the car im gonna take my parents to see it too dude

inline 6 is what he said

harrymay
01-19-2006, 04:59 PM
just be careful. auctions, and high dollar import tuners dont go well together. especially at the prices you are telling us.

i was sixteen once too, so i know what its like to want an awesomely fast car, but dont have a lot of room as far as cash flow. i would recommend looking into something other than cars that have been bought and fixed up and sold higher.

just a word of caution

Bboy_Jon
01-19-2006, 10:18 PM
ya i know, id look into more than just a couple visits

i still want that 1 grand mr2 though

i fricking want this soooo bad GAAHHH accordning to

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html

5.7 sec 0-60!!!!!!!!!!!! god its soo nice, my mom wont believe me thats its pretty much a rebrnaded 3000gt

http://www.amileofcars.com/listings/l1432.html

you guys think it would be better to just get aprelude/integra rather than a 240? according to

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html

the integras and preludes are a lil quicker than the 240sx's stock, i dont really want an integra since there not rwd, but ya i dunno

what u think of the jspec 89 aws??for 1800, u think i should check it out?

01-20-2006, 01:08 AM
How are older talon tsi's

http://www.amileofcars.com/listings/l3130.html

its about 1-2 hours away though but i can easily pay this in cash, what u think?

is this awd also? or is there a fwd and a awd?

any cool body kits for 90s talons?

Chad82
01-20-2006, 10:08 PM
If you have to worry about cost, don't even waste your time looking at 3kgts, stealth, talon, laser, or eclipse. They will nickle and dime you to death.

Bboy_Jon
01-20-2006, 10:35 PM
nickel and dime me as in like repairs and stuff? or what?

harrymay

You want to buy a car that was declared wrecked and you plan on modding it? :screwy:

I would suggest you hold off on buying a car if you think you can get a 240SX with a skyline motor for less than 3k.

Bboy_Jon
01-21-2006, 09:20 PM
so basically i should probly go witha toyota, honda, acura, or nissan or somethin?

whats wrong with buying a car that was previously wrecked? if its all fixed up and all?

my sister boyfriend got his eclipse rs for like 5k cuz the whole side was caved in and it runs fine, hasnt had any problems at all

i talked to the dude and he said he didnt really want me to take his jspec prelude lol

get a miata, it's seen as a chick car but add maybe a turbo and that thing is fast. it all about the p to w ratio.

harrymay
01-22-2006, 09:48 AM
a car that has been wrecked probably has a bent frame, lots of bondo, if its still got the original tranny- it might have issues with that. also, when you want to sell it, it will be harder and worth almost nothing.

i still agree with the miata, i see those around a lot for pretty chap, but they are easy to mod and drive awesome.

Bboy_Jon
01-22-2006, 11:45 AM
ya i really want a 2 seat car, if i got a 4 id end up taking the back seats out

id like a hatch back though

Vtec95Civic
01-22-2006, 10:20 PM
If I were you I would really wait and save your money for a nice car. You don't want something with a salvage or rebuilt title.. just gonna give you a LOT of problems. You're 16, right? Work a few years, save, research, then get what you want. I was just like you, wanted a decent car that I could mod to be some "super car", and ended up with a fairly crappy civic.

Bboy_Jon
01-22-2006, 10:26 PM
well i found some miatas baby!!!

Miata one

anyway i told my mom about the first and she said thats good, and we can do payments of 250, which i can afford, and ya she was like OOO COOOL when i said it was a convertable, anyways which of those is the best deal?

anyways heres the first one that i told my mom about

http://www.topqualitymotors.com/Page/99MiataBlack/99miatablack.htm

looks like it would be fun, i dont really want a convertable though

nickcp
01-22-2006, 10:54 PM
I really suggest a 88-93 mustang, you can definately get some power out of those cars for a fair amount of money

Heres some badass ones in your price range:
http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=185857010&dealer_id=56600408&car_year=1991&search_type=both&make=FORD&sponsorModel=&transmission=Manual&distance=300&model=MUST&address=92630&make2=sel_one&certified=&advanced=y&max_mileage=&max_price=10000&bkms=1137991981441&min_price=1&end_year=1993&color=&start_year=1985&drive=&isp=y&engine=8+Cylinder&doors=&fuel=&lang=&cardist=80

Bboy_Jon
01-22-2006, 11:09 PM
even though i know they can get powerful as shit, i dont really like mustangs

plus my mom doesnt want me to get a car thats older than 1996 lol

i can easily get a 96 mustang and stuff but if i were to get a stang id rather get a really old one (muscle car looking) or the 05 ones

alphalanos
01-23-2006, 12:01 AM
I got my car from an auction, you just have to know what to look for. If you are trying to get a specific car, then you might have trouble. Usually people are looking for something clean and reliable. Which is easy to to. Not all auction cars are crap. One I went to sold a Porsche Boxster for 18k, nothing wrong with it. I almost got a 98 Jetta VR6, 5spd, leather, sun roof for $4,000. Thats a hell of a deal I should have bought it.

Bboy_Jon
01-23-2006, 12:03 AM
but ya alot of the cars my coworker buys arent like pure shit u know? just minor damage most of the time, usually transmission stuff (and his dad owns a shop so he easily will fix it for me for free)

plus they usually have decent miles on em

Bboy_Jon
01-23-2006, 04:21 PM
k so anyone check out the miatas yet?

also i checked out this 95 auto 240, and its pretty nice, forgot to check the milage on it dammit, but ya its like 3650 or trade in, so i can probly trade in my lumina for a nice 1500 or so

but ya how much would it be to get a tranny swap?

Bboy_Jon
01-23-2006, 05:36 PM
well how bout these 94 rx7's?

i checked kbb and they should be about 10,000, not 14000. so if im gonna spend 10 grand might as well get a rx7 over a miata, then again my mom may not like it since its 94

http://www.amileofcars.com/listings/l1409.html

http://www.amileofcars.com/listings/l3116.html

Bboy_Jon
01-24-2006, 04:18 PM
k i checked out and tested the 240

http://www.amileofcars.com/listings/l2978.html

the guys actually selling for about 3900, but im thinking we can hit up around 3000

anyways, its got 160k on it :(

aside from that it has a few minor probs

*A crack in the windshield, passenger side

*the AC has a slight clicky prob, but it worked fine after warming the car up

*the drivers side window is jerky when going up and down

*some minor scratches, lil bit of rust

Other than that, the car runs pretty nicely, i like the way the engine sounds, nice wooshing sound, i didnt get to really test out its speed since they dealer didnt put any gas in it, and my mom was there, but ya

i like it, nice small turning radius (compared to my lumina) and ya it just sounds really nice

whats a good price? is 3500 or so good?

im gonna get a tranny swap eventually (first thing probly) and then a engine swap so the 160k isnt a BIG deal...

anyone know any free carfax reports?

Chad82
01-24-2006, 08:49 PM
RX7s are not a car I would suggest to anyone if they have a budget at all. Both of those RX7s at that mileage I am guessing are going to require new engines soon. RX7s will run great for a while but when something does happen, it is expensive. Always. Add to this that there are very few mechanics willing to work on them, and the price just keeps going up.

160k on a 240 is nothing. But once again, you would likely want to do an engine and transmission swap on that, which would end up being pretty expensive. Add to it there is rust and other problems and I would say avoid that one but keep the model in your mind.

With the miatas, check them out. See if you like them in person. I personally had the design of them, but if you like them, take a few for a test drive. They ARE solid cars and you couldn't go wrong with one if you like them (and it is a good one).

Bboy_Jon
01-25-2006, 12:01 AM
ya i would do an engine swap and tranny swap (tranny would be first probly)

but ya, i kinda dont wanna go for those miatas since i dont wanna make payments for 36 months, and ya my dad doesnt want me to get a convertable

Vtec95Civic
01-25-2006, 11:29 PM
How you gonna swap a tranny before an engine? The tranny has to be compatible with the engine...

This is why I say research before you buy a car because I guarantee half the things you think you're going to do you have no idea how to start.

Bboy_Jon
01-26-2006, 01:37 AM
because u dont need to get a new engine to tranny swap? no ones ever said, nor have i seen anywhere that u need to change the engine first

anyways, theres a 91 mr2 for sale, finallyget to see one in an ad, so im gonna call em tomorow and check it out on monday yo...... for 3900, better be 5 spd and turbo

Bboy_Jon
01-26-2006, 06:00 PM
well turns out its base model, with 146k 5 spd, but ya i miss read the ad its only 2995 :)

still a lil high but anywhere around 2500 i still want it :)

jorgeandonie
01-28-2006, 06:59 PM
dude have you looked at 300zx the 2 seaters, either twin turbo or not they are nice and pretty depandable, i like them im looking for a nice car my self right now, somewhere around 20-30k but wanna keep insurance rates down, im going to look for 300zx, i think they are pretty cool

Bboy_Jon
01-28-2006, 10:18 PM
ya id like one, but i dont like the old square body ones, the rounded ones (like 93s and stuff) are tight as shit

anyways ya, i got me a yellow 91 mr2 :)

146k, not tooooo bad, N/A o well, ill get an engine swap eventually (ya i know it would be cheaper to get a turbo one to start, but ya whats the point if no one in missouri ever sells mr2s?) and it runs really good, just smells like smoke, has a bunch of cigarette buds in it, driver side window doesnt move (you can hear the motor move, but the window just sits there, and u can push or pull the window up by pulling on the glass, just not all the way up, anyone know whats up? is it just not on the motor correctly, or the motor is fucked?)

and ya theres a small piece on the right side tail light (its like a side piece) thats missing, and theres some rust holes, but ya its 15 yrs old wadda ya expect?

and so ya, the guys wanted 3000 for it, i was thinking 2500-2800 would be good enough, we got it to 2400 :)

jorgeandonie
01-28-2006, 10:23 PM
so overall, how does the body look? and do you have apicture of the car?
im thinking on getting a newer 05+ GT or a 2000's cobra or saleen mustang or mach 1, dude i need to go test drive them shits
hahaha good luck with your car =)

Bboy_Jon
01-28-2006, 10:42 PM
the body is fine, except for those few rust holes, which are in the bottom corners of the side umm "skirt"

my sisters boyfriend is friends with a bunch of guys who own a car shop, they can hook me up with some body work and paint (course ill pay them, just not as much as i would at a normal shop)

i could just get a body kit but ya :)
