'97 S10 pickup fuel gauge stuck on full

My '97 S10 pickup fuel gauge is pegged on full permanently. I suspect a sending unit problem. Truck runs fine. 4.3 Vortec w/ automatic.

Anybody with an answer or a set of GM service manuals would be appreciated.

If it is reading full all the time there are ways to test, but I think it comes back to sender, open or grounded circuits, or defective a part.

Probably the sending unit, and of course they're in the tank. There is a very small chance that you have a bare wire grounding out somewhere (it would cause the same efect.

If you can unplug the wire without dropping the tank the gauge will probably rest on the E

That's a good thought. I'm just at the beginning of checking this out.

Also check to see if there is a good ground going to the tank, because this can cause the same thing to happen, I've seen the connector or electrical plug at the tank have a bad connection also.
