HP/TQ output88capriceclassic 01-16-2006, 06:55 PM hey evrybody i was just curious as to how much torque and horsepower my 1988 caprice classic brougham 4 barrel is capable of letting out.no major horsepower upgrades have been added and evrywhere i went to they didnt have a haynes or chilton for my caprice so i wouldnt know.thanks. PeteA216 01-16-2006, 10:57 PM You should be pushing about 170 HP and just above 250 ftlbs of Torque of you've got the 305 (5.0 Liter). 88capriceclassic 01-16-2006, 11:37 PM yea V8 305 thanks very much i was thinkin it would be the same of that guy with the 84 wagon. silicon212 01-16-2006, 11:45 PM Yours will be a touch more due to hydraulic roller lifters and other improvements. HLandin 01-17-2006, 07:57 PM Yes, output was bumped in 1987 when hydraulic roller lifters and cam where used and the compression was bumped. 88capriceclassic 01-18-2006, 12:12 AM so would u say about 180-195?maybe 200???thanks for the replies.and if anybody knows alot about carburetors then could u please goto the "choke" thread i have and just check it out and see if you know anything and let me know.thanks silicon212 01-18-2006, 12:35 AM Pete gave you the proper numbers - 170/250 HP and TQ respectively. HLandin 01-18-2006, 08:12 PM Yes. The improvements bumped it from pre-1987 to 1987, but you would not see 190 HP from the Caprice till the L05 350-cid TBI model released in 1989. Each year after that, output was gradually increased with the greatest changes in 1992 (hotter cam to offset weight increase due to model change in 1991) and the use of the LT1 in 1994. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
