I have a 98 altima
when I am driving I can hear a screaching noise coming fro the front right wheel
this happens when I am not using the brakes only
once I hit the breaks it stops

anyone know what this could be?

well since this can happen to any car, i'm not gonna direct you to the altima forum.. could be something caught between the brake pad and rotor.. are there any abnormal lines in the rotor?? it should be smooth as a baby's bottom

check your calipers, either somethings stuck in there or your rotors might be warped

slideways...

not warped rotors.
id say a pebble in the caliper.

I'm gonna guess the wheelbearing may be going out.....

the lug nuts might not be tightened all the way, i remember one time i forgot to tighten them all the way after putting my downpipe onand the wheels was making a scheechign sound so i was like wtf oh shit...

'squeaking' or 'screetching'... ? the first is a norm to any car. After you washed your car, or if your rotors have oxidized slightly from prolonged sitting, etc... there are no negative side effects in that case.

noone mentioned pad wear sensors, but if its not that, my 240 was squealing like a pig when driving and i also noticed a wheel vibration at 40-50 mph.....i swapped wheels, turned rotors, new pads, hardware, and calipers were new already.....came back same problems...then i sanded the rust off the inside rotor hat and hub....quiet as hell now and it minimized the wheel vibration....but i need to do something with suspension which i know nothing about......the reason behind the sanding was that it wud make it wobble slightly moving the pads away from the rotor (kinda like warped rotors, and causing it to squeak everytime the high side rubs)
