Can anybody give me a difficutly rating of changing the plugs on a 98 blazer? My novice mechanical experience involves changing the oil, replacing fuel filters, flushing my radiator, and other minor tasks.

I've changed plugs on some 4 cylinder vehicles, but I can't hardly see the plugs on the blazer. Is there anything that needs to be removed from under the hood to make the job easier?

Its got 145k on it and the plugs have never been changed.

Thanks.

You'll find 3/8" drive is much easier to work with than 1/2" drive. A spark plug swivel socket, (deep socket with a universal built into it) comes in real handy for several of them. Access some of them through the wheel wells; it helps to jack up the body a few inches. A few are accessible from the top. Have a selection of extensions available, and an old straight rubber spark plug boot comes in handy for starting the new plugs. Don't forget to put a dab of anti-sieze on the new plugs, it helps the next guy when it comes time to change them, (it just might be you!)

Look around in the forum.
There was a good article posted several days ago on changing spark plugs.
And always use the OEM ac-delco plugs the book calls for and set the gap and center the tip before installation.
And be carefull out there the plugs can crack if you do not us care and a spark plug socket.

GirlBear if you can change the intake gasket the spark plugs are a piece of cake to change.

i changed them on the third attempt. 1st time i was gung ho got out the first plug on the driver's side no prob. 2nd (middle) on driver's side BROKE!! Took 3-4 hours to get it out. Shit canned that day. 2nd Attempt Kept dropping sockets into unreachable places . 3rd time had local garage do it 4me.

front driver's and passenger plug can be reached from the front of the truck.

The passenger middle and back plug are reached through the wheel well.

The driver's side middle is a complete bitch to get at but what I found was a normal spark plug socket and the appropriate wrench is much easier to tighten the plug up and initially remove it.

The rest you will need a couple extentions and a couple of swivels and shoot it from the wheel well.

Also, the driver's side back plug can be reached from the top instead of the wheel well.

Take your time and budget a couple of hours for this. The first time you will need it.

And for the love of god use lots of dielectric grease on the wire boots.

Yeah, try removing the entire engine first... :icon16:
