Just purchased our first Chevy Tahoe last week. 2005 Z71,5.3L, Silver Birch, every option except navigation, 7000 miles, list was $49,090.00, scooped it for $29,000 and change. Extended the warranty to 75,000 miles. Just ordered K & N cold air induction kit to replace stock filter system. Anything I should know before installing this system?

I just did it on my 05 Police Pursuit Tahoe a few weeks ago. It was an easy install and took about an half hour or so.

I've used K&N on some of my other cars but I'm rethinking it on my Tahoe. The shifts are too hard and the huge sucking sound is annoying. I thought it would be mean, more throaty, but it's not. It's just loud and jerky. There's that, and the shift points are different. 1st and 2nd are early and there is a longer span between 2nd and 3rd.

It might be that PPVs have different PCM programming and such. I'm not sure.

Keep in mind that when you add air, you air/fuel ratio will change and you will be introducing more silica into your engine....that's sand.

A paper filter does a much better filtration that K&N at the comprimise of air.

Do an oil sample to watch the silica increase in your oil....

Personally, on an 05 I'd just leave it alone and watch that you don't void the warranty ....
