I blew a head gasket all back together and need to time engine. Chilton says line second crankshaft dampner mark with indicator on oil pan. #1 and #4 are not at TDC with marks lined up Why is that??? Is a 1996 zetec an interference engine??? Most engines Ive dealt with the timing marks are accurate. Just want to not have to redo.. Thanks any help appreciated.

as far as I am aware ALL zetecs are non-interferance

put 1 and 4 to TDC and lock the cams, theres notches on both of the cams that need to be lined up

according to ford literature the svt zetec is an interference engine. although i havnt yet encountered an svt focus with a busted timing belt to verify this.
