Does anyone know what the HP/ TQ specs were for the 85' Caprice Classic wagons with the 305? This car also had the cat removed, so I'm assuming this helped increase performance a little..I know it sounded good for sure!

According to the hanes manual, its pushing 165 HP with 250 ftlbs of Torque. With the cat gone you might have a few more horses than that, but no huge improvement.

Thanks a bunch! I don't know how a car as massive as the old Caprice wagons even moved with way less than 200 hp. I guess it's all in the torque

Its the torque that matters, that is true. All the engines these cars are not high horsepower producers until the LT1/L99 sequencial port injection systems; however, all have decent torque output. Take my '90 Caprice 9c1 for example:

5.7L 350-cid V-8
190 HP@4400 rpm
290 TQ@2400 rpm

About 100 point difference between the two. Its not like a lot of more modern vehicles (especially ricers) where HP and TQ are about the same. Example:

2002 Impala 9c1

3.8L 231-cid V-6
200 HP@5200 rpm
220 TQ@4000 rpm

Look at how close the HP and TQ are. But here is another thing, and something that most Caprice owners love. Look at the rpm where peak torque occurs. In my '90 350-cid, its at a low 2400 rpm which means I don't have to rev high to get my max torque; however, the peak torque of the V-6 is at 4000 rpm! You really have to rev that V-6 to get your max torque.
