I just removed my dual 10 sub box which has the amp and cap included from my truck and I don't believe how much better the truck rides and performs.

Ride is much smoother and the increase in pickup is making this truck kinda fun to drive again.

I know that every ounce counts BlazerLT, but just how much does your sub box weigh to make such a difference.

I hardly feel any difference between a full load and empty with mine.

Oh believe me, I could feel the difference.

I do believe you.
You probably push your harder than I push mine.
which is probably why you notice the difference and I don't

You probably took a load off your alternater too , adding to the effect . Mine seems to ride better loaded on the heavy side though . Old suspenions are softer . Rob

take out sub box? Nooooo! i like having people living 3 doors down from me, asking me to reduce bass, volume was fine. btw LT, hows the non-smoking thing going? haven't seen ya around in a while.

BlazerLT

Truck does perform a bit better, I am not talking let's go to the races type power, but the pickup is there again. My box is quite heavy and is close to 100lbs with the amp, cap and everything.

Mike1224,

The non-smoking thing is going great. So great in fact that the money I save per month has now allowed me to buy a house. So now I have my own driveway to rip things apart in.

WOOHOO!

Congrats on the house, 'LT!
Do you all want to know what I do when I want free HP?
I leave my roomate at home. (He's the poster boy for BIG -n- TALL) Now if I can only get him to stop slamming my damn truck doors!

BlazerLT
01-13-2006, 01:14 PM
Thanks guys, pics will be up soon.

As for people slamming the door, I tell them right to there face "Hey bud, you mind not slamming the door please, this isn't a 75 Lincoln."

Honesty and being straight with people often is the best solution.....welll...at least with men. They often will say "Cool, sorry bout that" and the problem will never come about again.

Put all that equip on a scale, just curious how much weight you shaved off.

BlazerLT
01-14-2006, 01:27 AM
I lifted the big lug out of there.

Definitely close to 100lbs.

That may be good for older people But.
I do not think the younger generation is going to give up there Sub box's without a good strong fight.
I do not know how many amps or HP them things take but I tryed to hook up a battery with one on.
Scared me to death I thought I done hooked it up backwards and blowed it up.

Naw, this thread was not really a guide to weight removal, it was more of an observation thread where I saw a difference with it removed.

I think I am honestly going to be redoing the box anyways. The box is just way to big for what I need and isn't built that well.

That's fine, because I have noticed a difference in ride and pep.

The reason you noticed a big difference may be more of a weight balance thing than the actual weight you removed. Or the old teeter totter effect.
Putting more weight on one end lifts up the other end and will sometime change the vehicle balance. And make it act like 2 to 3 times more weight than it actually is.
On a big truck if you put the entire load on one end it will pull 2 –3 times as hard as it would if you load it in the middle.
Also a car on the back of a tow truck will pull 2-3 times as hard as it would if you pulled it with a tow strap or on a trailer.
I guess it is the law of physics but all I know is it does work out like that.

BlazerLT
01-15-2006, 04:46 PM
True, that will effect the ride for sure.

But trust me, taking all unneeded weight out of a truck is a great way to get better performance and economy.

10-4 on that BlazerLT
Reminds me of the old model T days.
They used to kick us kids out of the back and make us walk up the hills.

My dad used to do that to me when I was making too much noise in the back seat

except he owned an aerostar, not a model T.

That's a good reason for me to put the rumble seat in my coupe when I'm done.

That is if I'll have the room on top of the battery and fuel cell

Heh, he has a brain like a seive and soon forgets. The last time I reminded him not to slam my door was in the parking lot of a store when I heard his door "closing" echoing off of the building walls. I looked at him and simply said, "You're the only guy that uses that door. When the plastic clips break, the hinge bolts need to be replaced, or you kill the switches/window motors - I'll know where to send the bill."

Hasn't done it again, but I also have refused to take him anywhere lately too. May be best to make my truck off-limits and never let him borrow it. (Not that I ever did - he has his own mini-van) We'll see how it goes fom here on out. I have addressed the problem with him in the past, but he gets defensive, and forgetful. You should have seen what I did to one guy that pushed my Subaru door shut with his boot when we were at a rest area 1000 miles from home....

I left him there. :D

Thanks guys, pics will be up soon.

Wow, just wow.

My future mom in law and the brother in law both like to slam doors as well.

It gets really bad especially when they both are in for a ride. The brother in law likes to give attitude like I am being too picky or something.

Can't stand when people don;t respect other people's property, and then defend their bullshit by saying I am the problem.

It is like people not knocking off their boots before getting into the truck and for the love of hell don't smack your boots off the door sill to get the snow off. Like I need chipped pain all along my door sill and then the rust coming in.

My gf is awesome about it. We both clap out boots together before swinging into the truck seat.

Yeah, I just love the justification I hear at times...

"It's a damn truck, get over it."
"What? It's not like it's the Hope diamond or something..."
"Well, I close my car/truck doors the same way, I never had a problem." (And I replaced his dirver's side window motor twice. TWICE.)
And of course, all of m friends drive rusted out pieces of sh*t all the time anyway, so nobody really appreciates a *nice* truck. And they wonder why I NEVER voulenteer a spacious, powerful ride when the subject of road trips come up...

If you want to really drive me insane, stuff food wrappers under seats and gum seat motors up. Needless to say there are two people already permanently on my "no ride" list. And WTF is it with people putting feet up on dash panels and my glovebox?!?!

If I really want to humiliate them, I give them a demonstration on how to close my truck doors... they all shut with the force excerted from a single finger from wide open to solidly closed. They close with a click - not a thump or in some cases - I had my engine-cut off and glass breakage detector activated after a body-rocking SLAM. "Oooh, what's that light on the dash?" "That's you slamming my door, numbnuts." :nono: :disappoin

my ex-girlfriend had the nerve to put some oils on her feet and press them on my windsheild. She actually pressed hard enough to put a huge crack all the way up. The rest of the trip sure took a long time since I refused to talk to her. That's 1 of the 2 times in almost 3 years that she made me mad

BlazerLT
01-17-2006, 12:31 PM
You want to know what makes you mad, getting a phone call 7:30 this morning from your gf stating she wrote off her car and then you go up to see her at the scene and she is wearking highheels and ridiculous pants when it is -3f out and completely ice and this is after she said that she would start wearing more appropriate clothes for the dead of winter here in Canada. This and she caused the accident by pulling out in front of a pickup truck.

Then you take her to the station where you find out your passenger caliper on your truck is seized and possibly warped the rotor.

This is a friggin f'n phucked up day.

I swear she does one more stupid thing I am going to absolute scream at her.

Come to aid only to find her looking like some sort of idiot shivering with panty hose on and high heels in this weather.

Under pissed in the dictionary it says "see BlazerLT".

Sorry to hear about that LT.

I hope that she isn't injured from the accident.

If I lived closer I'd offer you a hand with those brakes. I know that it's an easy job but it's always nice having someone ther to help bleed them

I sure hope that the rest of your day goes better

Dude, .... just, Dude. Damn, okay. Deep breath, with me....count to three while holding it, and let it out. Fine? Fine. Okay...

And I thought I was having a mother of a day. Try working as the sole systems engineer on deck at a major University for the *entire department* on the first day of classes. (Today) My cellphone has not stopped ringing for more than an hour between calls.

Don't take shit out on the ladyfriend. She probably already knows what she did. As for the caliper - NAPA locally has the whole assembly for just under $30, + $5 for the torx bolts/pins to hold them all together against your hubs. So it's no big deal - you can do the swap and bleed in under an hour....hour and a half with frequent breaks to come in out of the cold and sip cocoa or tea. You *can't* be mad when enjoying tea. I suggest a stout Earl Grey. :D

BlazerLT

I'm cool now, she knew she was in shit when I showed up and she was wearing those ridiculous clothes in this weather.

Remember, this is after asking her to wear more appropriate attire 10 times.

No patience left and she knows now why I ask her to dress properly.

As for the accident, it is her fault and she knows it. No sweat off of me, she is going to pay for it.

Now she has to walk to work which is only a 15 minute walk. No biggie.

Guys, let's confine discussion of GFs, slamming doors, and winter clothes to the OT thread. This entire thread has been OT since the first post.

This is fine, it is my thread and I am not having any problems with it.

You can't tell me how to respond in my own thread.
