Tensioner squeakingmanwiththeplan88 01-11-2006, 04:13 PM There is a squeaking noise coming from my tensioner. The belt looks ok and everything seems to be fine. The tensioner does wiggle back nd forth will the engine is running but I think thats suppused to happen, I did try tightening it but it was already tightened as far as it would go. Anyone have suggestions? Also would it be ok to unscrew the screw in the middle of the pulley, take it off, and put it back on? or would that mess things up worse? DetroitMuscle 01-11-2006, 04:38 PM If it wiggles on there you need to replace it. bottom line. Southern Comfort 01-11-2006, 04:45 PM The bearing are going out in the pulley. You'll need to replace it soon. It can lock up and if your driving it when it does it, it could cause more damage than it's worth. no need in taking it apart. the bearing comes pre-packed for the manufacture. Thanks SC muzzy1maniac 01-11-2006, 05:38 PM The arm will move back and forth to adust the tension on the belt. Take the belt off the pulley and try to wiggle it - if there is play then you need to replace it. It's a piece of cake. Get a replacement pulley( the pulley already has the bearing in it) from Autozone or wherever remove the arm, remove the bolt holding the pulley on and do the reverse to install. I reccomend cleaning the pulley groves with soap and water to remove any grease. manwiththeplan88 01-11-2006, 09:27 PM Thanks for the help, I will get a new one ASAP. manwiththeplan88 01-11-2006, 09:45 PM By the way, I was typing in "tensioner pulley" in the parts search on the autozone website and I couldn't find one that matched. Go to the store and have them look it up. I got mine at either Autozone or Advance Auto. dmbrisket 51 01-11-2006, 11:25 PM belt tentioner, get a delco replacment, not some cheep autozone one muddog321 01-12-2006, 07:59 PM There is a squeaking noise coming from my tensioner. Buy the belt tensioner pulley only about $18. The idler pulley could also be the problem but if the alternator is over 2 years old it also may have bad bearings - common chevy and blazer probem - start with pulleys then up to the $150, alternator. DetroitMuscle 01-12-2006, 09:05 PM Belt tensioner. ldr1ff 01-12-2006, 10:17 PM I agree get a GM tensioner. I got a auto parts store one and within about a month, it was squeeking again. Bought a GM one and never had that problem again for 40000 miles. muzzy1maniac 01-12-2006, 10:43 PM I've got 20k on my el cheapo replacement and not a squeak out of it LS19962DRBLAZER4X4 01-13-2006, 09:22 AM It was squealing like crazy their first impression was the water pump was bad I said NO, than they said I needed a new Alternator Generator I said NO, I asked them to tighten the tensioner belt and lube it. They refused to do any of the work, I reported them, after I went to my local mechanic and he said it just needed adjustments... He fixed it and it was gone.. Moral to the Story... The Squeaky Wheel doesn't always need to be replaced... dmbrisket 51 01-14-2006, 04:14 AM no offence at all, but when we get costomers telling us what is wrong and what we have to do, we button it up, and shove it out the door, the alternater is a possibility for a squeek or howel, looking at the tentioner tells you if its good usually, if its the tentioner and not the pully, pullys usually dont go bad, so alternater is a good assumption, however it is an eazy job that takes an expencive part... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
