Just for those of you who were worried about where the General is going, GM had it's best year (globally) since 1978. Also, Chevrolet was the top selling brand in the U.S. in 2005

You see GM brands all over Europe; Opel, Saab, Chevy, etc. I lived in Europe for 6 years and owned a 2003 Opel Vectra. It was as good or better than any BMW or Mercedes I drove.

Now, for this.....

You know, it's funny, but everyone (including GM) keeps talking about how they are in financial trouble, but they never actually do anything, except for the big sales all thru 2005.

"but they never actually do anything". Maybe that's the problem.....

I think GM can attribute the 2005 sales to the Employee Pricing in '05.

There's also a big difference between sales and profits. I don't know what the criteria for "best year since '78" was, but if it wasn't profit, it doesn't matter. That's the problem for the big 3, their overhead is growing faster than their income.

I don't know about any other years, but in 1987 GM was #1 in profit for US companys. Right ahead of IBM and Exxon. I think it was at 115 billion.GM has there hands in everything not just automoblies.

Yeah, they refer to it as "Legacy Costs." Basically, what they are having to pay retired employees is killing them.
