service 4x4 message1975_gordo 01-10-2006, 01:50 PM In my 2003 silverado witht he push button 4x4, I got a message saying service 4wd. When this is on the message center, the lights go out on the switch panel, and I'm unable to shift into 4wd, when truck is restarted, it resets adn all is good. Took it in and after a day at the dealer, they said "i don't know, our computer is showing any codes, come get it." Has any one else had this problem, been able to get an answer other than "I don't Know" or "bring it in when the message comes up"? corning_d3 01-10-2006, 02:22 PM Sounds like a bad encoder motor on the transfer case. kenny-1907 01-10-2006, 03:09 PM My money is on the push button switch, it is a common problem. You can either take it out and try to resolder the connections on the switch or replace it. corning_d3 01-10-2006, 03:12 PM MmmHmm, I forgot about that. As a matter of fact, i remember an old thread about a blazer doing the same thing. Turned out to be the pushbutton assembly. MikeD266 01-10-2006, 05:05 PM I just had the "service 4x4" message myself on my '99 LS Ext. Cab. We're talking some seriously fine cracks in the solder joints on the push button PCB but they ARE there. Took me all of 20 minutes to fix. Only problem NOW is that after re-soldering the cracked joints the lights on the PCB won't work. Go figure. I'd rather be able to shift into 4x than be able to see a non functioning switch plate anyway. Thanks to everyone that's on top of their game here. That fix alone just saved me $60 for a new switch. MT-2500 01-10-2006, 05:38 PM Find a good eng/trans capable scanner and get the codes. The codes will point you in the right direction. If you can get a code no post it back. BTW what happend to the good old days when you pulled the lever, locked in the hubs and you were there, bullet proof. jeverett 01-11-2006, 02:52 PM My money is on the push button switch, it is a common problem. You can either take it out and try to resolder the connections on the switch or replace it. It's what he said. I guarantee it. Bill-SILV 01-11-2006, 10:25 PM Last month mine said service 4x4 and it was the encoder motor on the trans. case like he stated. Works fine now. kenny-1907 01-12-2006, 10:34 AM Did the lights on the push button switch go out as well ? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
