How to disolve RTV Silicon on PCMg1smith 01-08-2006, 02:17 PM I've got a bad PCM module from a '99 JGC (4.7 Litre) just sitting in my garage. Does anyone know how to disolved the RTV / Silicon Rubber substance that encases the PCM Module? Several people have told me that they have repaired their heat sensitive automotive electronics including Jeep PCM modules by resoldering bad solder joints. It is common in todays automotive electronics for components to become hot and the solder that mounts them to the printed circuit board to melt or become brittle eg, "Cold Solder Joints". The Ford Exploder Radio Display problem is a common example. The modules can sometimes be fixed by re-soldering the problem joints. I've found my PCM printed circuit board encased in a yellowish / clear silicon rubber / RTV type of substance. I can peel off the top layer but it is also on the bottom non-accessable side.
