can't turn key to start enginenyexchange 01-08-2006, 01:43 AM i own a toyota camry 2006 for the past 13 month. today, when i stick the key into the steering colume to start the engine, the key won't budge or turn. it seem that the ignition starter is stuck. I decided to adjust the steering wheel to try to loosen it since i think something might be stuck inside the steering colume, and it work. i was able to turn the key and start the engin. i'll call toyota on monday, but i wanted to get some advice on what might be the problem here? is this a defect? InstallTech 01-08-2006, 02:56 AM Your steering wheel probably just locked into position. It's a normal thing on most cars. Turn the wheel enough without the key in the cylinder, and the steering wheel will "click" and lock into place. Supposed to be a theft deterent, requiring the key to actually release the lock out. If you experience that again, just put the key in, turn the wheel a bit and turn the key at the same time. Should release the lock. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
