1998 2.0 4 Cylinder Clicking won't startopaque1997 01-05-2006, 10:38 AM Okay - Contours never seize to amaze me - my car was running okay but having the idle problem and check engine light and the issue of.. stuttering? around 60 mph when you pull off the gas.. Mechanic said to replace the spark plugs and wires - Autozone code said Heated O2 Sensor Replaced plugs and wires - tried the O2 Sensor but gave up when we couldn't get it out.. after that the car ran WONDERFULLY for about 24 hours - not stuttering - no stalling... then it stalled and wouldn't start - just clicked not turn over at all and the windshield wipers come on by themselves and the radio volume turns WAY up - had the terminals on the battery cleaned and it started (no jump) started several times on its own - then it stalled and again just clicked - right before it stalled the brake light and ABS light came on and wouldn't go off - and panel lights dimmed. Jumped it and it started VERY easily - then stalled a block later - same deal - though this time the panel lights stayed dim and lights stayed on - drove like a bat out of hell the mile home and parked it. After reading the posts I'm wondering if this is a wire problem and we just jiggled them enough here adn there - could it also be the spark plug wires aren't greased? HELP! :screwy: dubrouillet 01-09-2006, 03:21 PM We have no decided the problem is the Belt Tension which is not spinning the alternator (alternator is more the testing fine) - cheaper fix if it is truely the problem - unfortunatly we pulled the alternator out which was mroe then a fun job.... spider-car 01-22-2006, 02:40 PM i have a 98 2.5,had a similar problem about 5 months ago, turned out to be the alternator.unfortunatly this proved to be a task that i could not handle.i don't know how different the 2.0 and the 2.5 are but if the 4 cylinder is crammed in like my 6 is then good luck changing it yourself,i opted to take the expensive route and paid $570.00 to give a mechanic a headache.hope this helps mike vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
