Hi,

I've got an 88 with a 2.6L and I recently had the clutch done (too much for me) and replaced all fuel injection seals myself. The truck has been running great for the better part of a week. Today, I stopped for gas and when I tried to restart, it was hard to start. Once I got it running, I had to keep blipping the throttle to maintain idle and trying to roll caused bucking and backfires. After a couple minutes, I smelled a strange burning odor. When I got out, I noticed that the CAT and downstream exhaust (which were all replaced when the clutch was done) was glowing red hot! At first I thought an injector was dumping fuel so I pulled the plugs and they all looked pretty good (tan/brown). Any ideas on what's going on here? Thanks.

Has the timing belt been replaced ?

The truck has 170k miles and I've had it since 140k. The last owner said he had to replace the head at around 130k so I assume the belt was changed then. No matter, as I think the problem is the airflow meter (attached to the top of the air filter housing on the 2.6L). Disconnecting it (when the motor is warm) causes it to run fine.
