WIP: 2006 Mustang GT - Cobra throwbackdeltableh 01-04-2006, 09:10 PM Alright, well, I just game back from vacation, and my wonderful Cobra Colors paints and primer came, so I can start the Revell Mustang GT I got. It's going to be white with blue Shelby stripes, all of them Fire Pearls. Well, enough chit chat... here's what I've done thus far... mainly just priming, but a lot of exterior work will be done tonight! http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1115.jpg Before... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1116.jpg AFTER! Drying time now, then a little more primer, then paint! deltableh 01-04-2006, 10:02 PM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1117.jpg First coat... let's see how this goes! digitalbanzai 01-05-2006, 02:59 AM Looking good so far, nice paint. Keep it up! deltableh 01-05-2006, 02:58 PM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1118.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1119.jpg I think I'm going to end up using the whole thing of paint... but I don't think I'm gonna get the white I was looking for... oh well, still going to go with my original idea. Anybody have any ideas on how to paint split stripes? I get to mask down the sides, but tape is too thick for the middle. Do I use a straight edge and X-acto, or is there an easier way? deltableh 01-05-2006, 08:31 PM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1125.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1126.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1127.jpg Yay for painters tape. I have to prime the Carrera GT I have waiting, and then it's blue stripes and blue Porsche! white97ex 01-05-2006, 09:30 PM paint job looks good. looks way more silver than white though? Samurai75007 01-05-2006, 10:22 PM dang, this looks like it might turn out well. deltableh 01-05-2006, 10:49 PM white97ex: I agree :-/ Oh well, that's half the bottle, and I don't think it'll get much whiter. Best to bite the bullet and go onward. Maybe I'll do a white and blue Corvette down the line. Samurai75007: As if there was any doubt ;)? And another update! http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1128.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1129.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1130.jpg deltableh 01-05-2006, 11:42 PM I was hoping for more comments before the reveal... but here it is! http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1135.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1136.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1137.jpg Whumbachumba 01-06-2006, 12:34 AM That's nice. Great color combo. I still haven't decided what to paint my '06 Boss yet. deltableh 01-06-2006, 02:20 AM The more I look at it, the more I like it. I still wish it were that white I wanted... oh well! Onward ho! Digitor 01-06-2006, 02:32 AM Nice paint! It would look good white, but it's cool silver:sunglasse pre98zetec 01-06-2006, 07:09 AM Nice job.. but please tell me thats not crazing i see on the door and the driver side rear 1/4 panel. stripes look awesome! redstang423 01-06-2006, 12:25 PM i think that color combo looks great, no need to be dissapointed about the white though. although it is strange that the white didnt come out "white" deltableh 01-07-2006, 05:03 PM blubaja 01-07-2006, 09:04 PM Lookin great so far! geronimo77 01-08-2006, 05:10 AM Really nice paintjob. But you should choose some better rims deltableh 01-08-2006, 11:32 AM Really nice paintjob. But you should choose some better rims Nope. 15 inch mags were exactly what I was looking for. deltableh 01-08-2006, 07:38 PM The interior, custom black and blue, with a "wood" steering wheel rim. Once again, a throwback to the Cobras of yore. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1144.jpg Well, here are some "almost done" pictures. Just some decalling to do tomorrow. Sorry that the pictures are dark, but my photoeditor isn't working so I can't lighten them now :( http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1145.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1146.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1147.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1148.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1149.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1150.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1151.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1153.jpg I'll decal tomorrow, and then some natural light shots! 95vteclude 05-08-2006, 09:09 AM You're model looks great! Cant wait to see it finished.... Can you post a picture of the roof from straight above in direct light? It would be super helpful in a project Im working on. thanks! Mr. Me. 05-08-2006, 12:13 PM it`s cool but wheels... i don`t like the wheels M4tt83 05-08-2006, 02:00 PM What colour was your primer? I think some pearl whites are supposed to be used over a gloss white base because they are no where near opaque. deltableh 05-08-2006, 03:03 PM It was a black primer, just like is needed for a Cobra Colors Fire Pearl. I'll grab some pictures for you soon. And about the wheels, I went smaller rather than larger because I think the smaller better represent the heritage of the Cobra. deltableh 05-08-2006, 07:11 PM Here are the pictures, ladies and gents; they're from this winter, hence the snow: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1154.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1155.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1156.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1157.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1158.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1159.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1160.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1161.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1162.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y164/deltableh/Car%20Models/PICT1163.jpg 1986Z28 05-09-2006, 02:16 PM lookin cool, keep it up grasset2005 08-16-2006, 06:47 PM good job! quadzero 08-16-2006, 07:16 PM I think this turned out pretty nice. I can understand why some arent happy with the rims. But some of us older kids that can remember when these kinds of rims were at home on a mustang, it sure brings back memories. Great idea mixing in some heritage with what the mustang is now, I like the whole theme about it. Dean23 08-16-2006, 08:09 PM Good job. Wow that colour looks very similar to the 06 Im building, yours is lighter though. I like the rims. Its nice to see some old school wheels and tires instead of always 17-20 inchers. KEep up the good work deltableh 08-23-2006, 08:41 PM Thank you both for understanding why I put the mags on the car. To me, five spoke mags are the only things that belong on muscle cars :) Speaking of, I think the new GT's have a mag-style option :-D bhop73 08-23-2006, 11:53 PM Overall it looks good to me. I like the color choices. I can also understand why you put those wheels on there, but I definitely don't agree with the choice. It's a muscle car sure, but it's a modern muscle car and small wheels just look 'odd' on modern cars to most people (myself included). Of course, it's your model and you should make yourself happy before anyone else. And you're right, the current 'Stang does have 5 spoke mag looking wheels, but they are 17 and 18" which fit the modern style nicely. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
