97 Trooper Intermittent Coolant Leakgtarjohn 01-02-2006, 08:51 PM My 97 Trooper with 90K miles has a weird issue. Occasionally it will leak a little coolant. I have crawled under the truck and can't seem to find where the leak is but the coolant is "pooling" where the tranny meets the front differential. I know it's coolant because it's green and none of my other "bodily fluids' have required any "top-offs" in the last year or so...besides the occasional 1/2 quart of oil. It's reaaly weird...I can drive it for a week and nothing drips out the bottom and the "pool" dries up...I park it for 2-3 days and I get a spot under the truck. I have noticed that if I park it in my driveway which has a slight grade...it does not leak at all...not even if I leave it parked for 2 weeks. Any takers? John kdkool 02-12-2006, 12:14 AM I had the same problem on my 96 when it was 100k miles. The drain plug (small white cap) on the radiator developed a small crack. Lift up the radiator and u should be able to see it at the bottom. You might need to remove the fan shrouding to see it better. The plug itself is about 2 bucks from the dealer. Good luck! mytrooperhatesme 03-05-2006, 12:45 AM My 97 Trooper with 90K miles has a weird issue. Occasionally it will leak a little coolant. John My 96 Trooper is doing this same thing and in the same spot. It is driving me crazy. Did you ever find out what was going on? gtarjohn 03-05-2006, 10:45 AM Yes...it was my waterpump. I had the pump and timing belt replaced...I actually replaced all of the belts...working like a charm now. I did check the plug as recommended by the last poster...was not the culprit. A new or rebuilt water pump is not very expensive...you may want to replace the belts like I did as well...since you're gonna have everything pulled apart. I will look at the water pump today. I have just about pulled all my hair out trying to figure this out. I will let you know what I find out. Again thanks. mytrooperhatesme 03-07-2006, 02:48 AM I'm in the process of changing my TB and all associated parts. Since I am changing the water pump. So far so good. I am waiting for some parts. I should have everything together by the weekend. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
