since my daihatsu mira trxx is almost complete ( 80 %) i am starting a new project. i dig this big 1:16 i think Proton Wira toy from the storeroom in my house. It is a friction toy.but i will turn it into a static disPLAy model.....no interior detail ....no suspension settings all.. just a normal free wheeling style.

here are the pics..

cham2020

it's actually not meant as a model
it's friction toy..but since it's damage
it will become a static model :)

Well either way you put it I have never seen a Proton in model form

cham2020

this model was release way back in the mid 90's by daisheng. the actual model quality is good but you know as a small boy, anything can happen.lucky it survive and i am going to make sure it survive..

Hmm, both wheels look good. Definitely lower it a bit.

Is there any interior at all?

cham2020
01-03-2006, 12:50 PM
i don't think i will lower it. there are two reasons
1) if i have to lower it, i will to have to cut the chasis
2) i am going to built a stock model of it.

pity to say it steve...there is no interior detail....

SteveK2003
01-03-2006, 06:37 PM
Ah, I see the picture of the gold car in your first post now: It didn't show up on my computer at work. The ride height looks pretty accurate then.

Bummer about the interior, I guess it's gonna be a 'slammer' (Basically body and wheels).

cham2020
01-03-2006, 08:44 PM
i am going to use a hack saw to whack the middle grill out soon...cause the grill is the first generation and the one i am doing is the 2nd generation wira

I still like the first wheels. :)

cham2020
01-03-2006, 08:57 PM
i have a question here
let's say the body is gloosy black
will the windows look funny if i sprayed them flat black?

digitalbanzai
01-03-2006, 09:38 PM
Yes might look strange, I take it the windows arent clear?

SteveK2003
01-03-2006, 09:54 PM
I would paint the windows a dark smoke color: I know there is nothing you can see inside, but it will look better than pure black.

cham2020
01-03-2006, 09:58 PM
mm.....can any one explain about dark smoke color ?

digitalbanzai
yeah
they are not clear

I mean see-through, but very dark tint.
Like this (Window for the 1/10th scale Chevy pickup body on the Clod Buster):
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXGB62&P=7

It looks better than totally black windows, and you have to hold it right up to a light to barely see through it.

OOOh Rare project, rare car!!

I would have said that the wheel on the bottom is nicer, only if I didnt see the circle shaped thing behind the spokes of the wheel, they look like fake disc brakes. It would look much better if those "discs" behind these wheels are removed though.

How about making a full interior using left over dashboard and seat pieces? That would make the model car so much more realistic!

I am really interested on this car, the only thing I have seen that is close to it is the mitsubishi lancer. I have never lived in malaysia therefore I could never see this. It makes me want to own one of these, even if its just a pullback toy.

If this car is based off of the early 90's lancer, I think the body proportions is actually a little off (the rear doors seem to be a bit short) Its almost l ike you can build a coupe out of it, but NOT a mitsubishi mirage ASTI / Eagle summit from the early 90's) I would try to move the B pillar a little bit forward (maybe like 3-5mm?)

Its still going to be a good model though, good luck.

P.S. And did I say that I suggest kitbashing/scratchbuilding a full interior for this car? :icon16:

cham2020
01-04-2006, 02:41 AM
yep kaho,
i understand wat u are writting...the car u mention is proton putra ( mirage asti ). well kaho, it is actually a toy so don't expect 100 % replication.. even the triangle mirror line is gone..( but i am going to built it )..was thinking also how to built the interior....look the pic below and you will understand how big is this car.
the mustang beside it is 1/24 scale ( tamiya ).
yes kaho,
this car is base on the lancer in the early 90's. there are lots of variant of this car and i wan to replicate is the Proton Wira 1.8 EXI DOHC Limited Edition Version powered by 4g93. The most powerful Proton Wira ever produce.

p/s kaho
i have 3 more of these ..hehe.....
i do agree about the disc brakes on the rims.....maybe i will stick to the first one.......

druid_99

I hope this builds will turn out great.

It will be better if there is an interior, engine details and others because it is a 1/16 scale and it will be a waste if built into just a curbside kit because there are thousands of references available in Malaysia as this car is one of the most affordable cars here.

Too bad you didn't bring this car when you were here in Kuala Lumpur and visited my friends shop recently, otherwise I would have asked you to bring another so that I can build it too... :iceslolan Just kidding...

By the way, to others that is wondering, this model (previously a toy) is limited and I've never found it anywhere even at the local toy shop and being a 1/16 scale and a lot of references (in the thousands actually), one can't resist in bulding this into a decent looking and fairly detailed model kit (well, at least I can't).... :grinno:

druid,
yeah .. it's very big and i have 3 more. i wonder where i put them. this the only one i can find ..wierd though..

since everyone hopes for this car to have an interior detail, i will stop my other projects including my iswara restoration projects so i will be able toconcetrate on the interior itself.....ok guys..it will have an interior....my first attempt ! yeah !!!!

i hope you guys will support me

yeah
from the pic , it is using a maniLAcard, i am using it to do the layout then i will try to use styrene sheet ( i am running out of those ) to do....anyway, i don't think i can replicate 100 % like those in kits with fulldetails.....
:(

i start to work on the dashboard. it's kind of painstaking ( sorry, it's not very accurate cause i am quite new )..i hope to do it nicely though....

here is the model......
i have been keep filling it with putty in order to remove scratches...sigh....

Hmm, that does look like it would take a long time. I would make the basic shapes and tint the windows so you can't tell the detail is limited: I think you could go mad getting everything to look just right.

anyway, do you know how to print decals? since you are from malaysia.... :D

Well it used to be that modelers in our part of the world, sang praises about Alpine (if i recall that's the name of the brand) printers but problem was finding the correct type of decal paper. However with current printer technology, a good high-end printer (read as expensive ones :( ) can print decals too but the same problem persists, finding the right type of decal sheets.

cham2020
01-10-2006, 08:01 PM
yea
i heard of that printer before. anyway, i have fallen asick so hard projects will slow :(

druid_99
01-10-2006, 09:15 PM
MidnightWangan, you're a modeller from Malaysia too? Great, it seems that automotive modellers still existed here in Malaysia. It seems the number of auto modellers is still too small here (then again, maybe I didn't try too hard). Most of my friends give up building cars because it is hard to get a perfect finish.

Cham, like I have explained to you during your visit to my friends shop the other day, making a decal is a bit hard if you're in Malaysia. I have been experimenting with bubblejet printers and laser printers but none of it can get the printing result like an ALPS printer. The difference between the ALPS and other commercial printer is, from what I know, ALPS print out opaque colours while the others will print transparent colours. If you print using other printers (I've used the Xerox laser printer) you have to place the decal only on a white suface. I use clear decal papers that I can get easily from a shop nearby my house and I still didn't find any printers that can give the result like ALPS.

A friend of mine produces decals for Military aircraft (Malaysian TUDM decals) but he prints his decals at one of those commercial international printers which will only take a minimum of 500 copies of the decals and it will cost around RM1000 for it.

cham2020

druid
u should check the car he made..proton pert !!!! it's really a nice car he build there.
yeah druid, it's ok. thanks very much for your help. anyway, if you know where i can get the decal paper and the protector. please tell me, i don't mind printing using a normal printer since my decals are mostly silver color and not white for the wira. :) anyway, the printer must print a minimum of 500 ?oh my god !

i do agree, building car must have passion and tolerance....

MidnightWangan
01-13-2006, 12:35 PM
Yup guys i'm from Malaysia too though i spend lots of time in our neighbouring country singapura. Yeah there really seems 2b a shortage of modelers in our part of the world, mebbe its cuz its very tedious & time-consuming to complete an acceptable kit, probably that's why more people are into RC, die-cast & the real 1:1 versions.

ALPS that's the dang name of that printer alright. I gave up finding those damn decal papers to print on, got a friend in a local mod-shop garage who does 1:1 stickers for cars, we juz re-size & print to use from the industrial-type (not really that big actually) printer.

However, we do still face problems with see-thru, clear decals tho', like those names of WRC drivers on the rear window etc.

druid_99, seen ya around in the SR-Garage forum. :)

nice to see you here midnight wangan..... !!!!!!

can you PM me about the decals of Proton PERT

Murray Kish
01-13-2006, 12:48 PM
You're definitely ambitious! That interior is gonna be a challenge.... Perhaps if you made it into a rally version, the interior could be a little easier? Just a plain dash, some rollbars and seats? Just some thoughts!

Good luck!

Murray

cham2020
01-13-2006, 12:53 PM
i never thought of doing the rally version..cause i need to replicate the street racing wira.. ichecked. the dashboard is not hard. the hardest part is the recaro seats.....anyway, i will try my best !
thanks very much..iit iwll take some time though

MidnightWangan
01-13-2006, 12:57 PM
can you PM me about the decals of Proton PERT

Yo bro, u got mail.

Murray's got a pretty good suggestion, doin' the wira WRC saves u all the rear-seats hassle, interiors blah2. B'sides, the rally wiras were only re-badged evos1-3 on the exterior, even the internal dashboard remains lancer's. If u do ur street-version u gotta scratch-build e wira dashboard, seats're slightly diff shapes & steering from the mitsu mirage asti series.

Man, that came out sounding strange, especially to those unaccustomed to Proton cars. LOL

cham2020
01-13-2006, 01:00 PM
yep, i like murray's idea. but i promised myself to build a street version of this wira untill i located the rest of my 3 missing wira's. only then i will proceed to rally one of them. my idea was a stock wira, a rally version ,a police version and the last is a tuned version....

got your pm

Police patrol wiras, sounds great, maybe do the highway patrol or the royal police, not the usual neighbourhood fellas. :) Nicer color scheme.

Hmm u've inspired me w ur 'nationalistic' ideas. :P Makes me wana build a V6 Perdana done airport taxi style. LOL Look closely, our Perdanas may be re-badged Mitsubishi Eternia with Galant parts but the overall shape resembles the current pontiac GTO very closely.

Not bad about the polish, must have taken quite a long time since it is a big car!

Are those painted tape on the door handles?

yah
the polishing is very hell to me . i polished 3 times and manage to get this gloosy image. i polish until my hands are numb. no kidding

anyway, the door handles are printed on a A4 paper. i stick a clear cellotape on the surface and cut the double side tape and stick at the back. cut it out and stick.

thanks kaho :icon16:
