My 2002 Trooper is running a little rough and makes a "sucking" sound. (Insert jokes here) LOL! I'm afraid I might have a bad IMG, so I want to do a check.

I just went through a few searches on this fourm and found some good stuff. However, I still have a few questions.

1. What should I use to check for a leak...O2 Safe Carb cleaner or Starter Fluid?

2. Where exactly do you spray?

3. What will be the response if a leak is detected?

Many thanks!

3. the engine will rev up since it is sucking in and burning up the carb cleaner.

From the symptoms you describe, this is almost certainly a cracked IMG. If you need to test, I'd spray the IMG area with a water bottle, COLD engine only! Aim for the black plastic looking gasket between the intake and cylinder head runners. It should rev up or stumble when you hit the split.

G/luck
