Stupid NissanSpeednis 12-28-2005, 12:35 AM Well, my 2000 Xterra is now starting to kick the bucket. I'm in the midst of hunting down a nasty coolant leak. I went ahead and got a new water pump and I have decided to do the timing belt job at the same time. But now I'm afraid its the water outlet housing that there is a TSB for. Anyone else have this experience? OffroadX 01-02-2006, 11:01 AM The TSB in question: http://www.nissanhelp.com/Ownership/Bulletins/Nissan/2002/NTB02-044.htm Speednis 01-11-2006, 10:44 AM Yeah, what the TSB doesn't mention is the fact that all sorts of stuff has to be removed to even see the connection well. I've got everything off and I still can't tell for sure where the coolant leak is coming from. What I have removed: All front hoses, radiator, crank pulley (harmonic balancer), various brackets/tensioners, Tbelt cover, Tbelt, Both Cam gears, water pump, upper rear tbelt cover, and finally the water outlet housing. My huge worry is that the leak is actually coming from the thermostat housing, which has a metal pipe coming out of the back of it that runs along the top of the block underneath the intake manifold. Or even worse, it could be a cracked intake manifold. The reason for this worry is when I got all this stuff off, I could see where the coolant had pooled up on the top of the block, between the two heads, under the intake. Either one of these locations and I'm screwed, I'll have to remove the entire intake assembly, and anyone whose ever looked at the top of the VG33E, knows what I'm in for. Ohh well, at least I won't have to worry about my Tbelt, tbelt tensioner, and WP for another 100,000 miles or so (crosses fingers). My plan of action: get the updated gasket for the water outlet housing mentioned in the TSB, put the cooling system back together roughly, then get one of those pressure testors that hooks up to your radiator. If I still have a leak, it means one of the 2 nightmares I mentioned above. Ya'll keep me in your prayers. Speednis 01-17-2006, 09:52 PM Everything is good now. I replaced everything I could. I got some good pics, so I may go ahead and write up a nice article about the tbelt job. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
