Brake/Tail Lamp Socket

Hi,

I have an 87 Camry LE wagon. The tail light indicator light on the dash board is illuminated. I noticed the passenger brake lamp was not lighting when I pressed the brake.

I replaced the bulb and noticed that only 1 of the 2 filaments in the bulb was lighting when the brake was pressed. I looked at the other working tail lamp and noticed that both filaments were lighting.

I took the bulb out of the defective lamp socket and noticed that one of the electrical contacts was recessed and looked coroded which is probably why only 1 of the filaments is lighting up.

Does anyone know where I can get a replacement socket online?

Thanks,

Brian R.

Before replacing the socket, you may want to disconnect the battery and try cleaning the corrosion from the contact first. You need to use some type of scraping tool. A slotted screwdriver or even some sandpaper glued on to the end of a pencil eraser should work. When cleaned, reinsert the bulb and reconnect the battery and see if the bulb now works on both filaments and if the dash light goes out. If the problem is now corrected, you may want to use some dielectric grease in the socket to prevent the corrosion from reoccuring.
