Need Some Answers To Questions I haveCaddyMan1978 12-23-2005, 03:34 PM Okay guys I have a 1987 Cadillac Coupe Deville with the 4.1 that is blown. I was told I could swap for a 92 4.9 with no problems at all and could use the original computer. A friend told me he did this before with no problems. Let me know what you guys think if this is feasible and not have any problems. Thank You Brian maxwedge 12-23-2005, 04:21 PM Okay guys I have a 1987 Cadillac Coupe Deville with the 4.1 that is blown. Thank You Brian A 4.5 long block will work, just some sensor changes from the old motor, I am not sure you can do this with a 4.9. Swapping a Northstar would be a challange, since its a completely different engine with different control systems and electronics. Maxwedge is right, the way to go is to use a 4.5. It's almost identical to a 4.1. Just use the 4.1 fuel injection and ignition systems and sensors. You will get 200 hp, which is a nice improvement over a 4.1. maxwedge 12-24-2005, 02:21 PM 4.9?? The 4.9 is final version of the troublesome 4.1 before the Northstar appeared around 95 in the Deville, Eldo and Seville had N'star in 92. caddydaddy 12-30-2005, 01:46 PM The 4.9 is final version of the troublesome 4.1 before the Northstar appeared around 95 in the Deville, Eldo and Seville had N'star in 92. Actually, the 4.9 was used until 1995 in the Sedan Deville. In 1993 the Allante, ETC and STS had the Northstar, and were the first cars with the Northstar. maxwedge 12-30-2005, 05:59 PM Geez and I worked for Cadillac for 25 years and I had this wrong, what a crappy memory. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
