The most important thing you need to do is research. Look for a book called "Maximum Boost" by Corky Bell. It is the best and first $25 anyone should spend if they are trying to build their own turbo.

Just to add on from above, he is 100% correct, you need to know what you are doing, if you dont you can blow all your seels and crack your head, and you could be hurt or killed. you need to know how much your engine can handle and you need dish pistons, if you dont, you will be asking for it.
