Somethings are just too good to be true. I think I may have found one of these things. There's a kid in my area selling a D16Z6 w/ tranny and ecu for $200. Am I the only one who see's a problem with this or no.

Sounds like a good deal.
find out details and go for it if you can/should.

Yeah I see a problem; why would you bother swapping an engine only slightly faster than your own.

buy it...tear it apart, put new low comp pistons in it and some good Hbeam rods.....boost that thing like there's no tomorrw

I would bother doing that because my tranny is going out and my engine has 200,000 mi on it. Not exactly race material and I can afford to spend $200 on an engine tranny and ecu if it's a for real deal. Not to mention I would love to have a second engine setting around to start building up. I'm going to look at the stuff this Friday. Hopefully this will turn out to be a good deal.

if you can, do a compression test, but that might be a little tough if its not in a car....

Honestly if i was doing this, i would tear into that engine after i bought it and make sure its all ok internally....

neither is a D16Z6, hell, neither is a civic....

I was planning on going turbo anyway. If I get this engine I start with a head job and then beef up my internals so it can handle a decent amount of pounding. I'm hoping to finish the engine work by next October so I can get into some local races before my birthday.

Not race material, PUGH! :P I may not be dropping a 500 hp b18 into my civic but I'll be dammed if that doesn't mean it isn't race material!

Thats 2 hondas out of how many million?

Out of all the vids you put up all are B motors...
Your putting in a z6...

Hondas just like any car can be made fast but say it with me.

THEY ARE NOT RACE CARS.

I think I clearly stated that I knew that the motors were B series and that I wasn't planning on doing any massive overhaul, but if a Civic that can blow the 1/4 mile in 11 sec and less isn't a "race car" then please tell me what the deffinition of a "race car" is. No vehicle was ever originally intended to be a "race car" but it's not what it is that makes it a "race car", it's what you want it to be. For that there isn't any standard. If I want to turn a Geo metro into a firebreathing beast that will throw down with the best of them, it can be done. Yeah it may mean lots of custom work and fab, but that doesn't determine race material. Yeah a Civic, in comparison to other cars, may not be the best choice when it comes to money required to make it fast, but if you would rather build up a base model Civic to something no one can touch on the track, Go for it. It's a preference, not a definition, which is why so many people have done it.
Tell me my Civic isn't a race car. I'll tell you your smokin' crack!

Like I said, give me a deffinition. Because what your making comparisons to, are time standards. If you want to get technical, then a race car would be any motor vehicle with 4 wheels that participates in a contest of speed. I may not be able to hang with an F1 or bust out a quarter mile faster than Lotus but like I said, it's whatever you make it. Quit giving me stereotype comparisons and look at what I said. Take it and sit on it a while. I admit that I don't match the stereotype and that any *stock* civic doesn't match the stereotype but you're making comparisons on a stereotype.

Race car: A car made for auto racing.
A race car would accel brake and handle well
the honda civic does none of these.

The honda civic does fall under catogry of econ car:
a car made to run cheaply and last.

A car racing is what you stated, not a race car. Any car can race. Not all cars are race cars and no matter what you do to them they won't be race cars.

I would say you fall quite easy into the sterotype you think your Shumie the day daddy handed the keys of the all mighty HONDURRR over.

i wouldn't really consider many cars "race cars".....at least ones on the street. There are a lot of fast Honda/Acuras, but not many are "race" material
