My dad is trying to adjust the valve on his 1971 MGB. Is says in the book he has to adjust 1 when number 8 is fully open, and so on down the list. My question is: as your looking at the front of the motor, are the valves 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8? I'm used to ichevy small blocks and dentifing them as #1 intake and #4 exhaust and so on.
Thanks, for the help.

BillFrom front of head start with 1 ......Number 8 is the last valve on the head so it is 12345678 in a row...make sure you adjust according to manual either hot or cold it makes a difference. Believe It's .015 cold or .013 hot.... mgbss63

The MGB valve adjustment uses the rule of nine for adjusting. Example when valve 5 is open, you adjust valve 4, valve 7 open adjust valve 2 and so on until all valves are adjusted.
