2001 Durango 5.9mizzoudude1 12-17-2005, 11:33 AM Hey everyone I'm new to the forums and have a question. Does anyone know where the thermostat location is for a 2001 Dodge Durango. It's a 4X4 with the 5.9L engine. I think it's on top of the block coming of the radiator hose but before I start ripping things apart I want to make sure. Any way if anyone has a picture of it they could post that would be great also. Thanks in advance. mizzoudude1 12-17-2005, 01:04 PM Ok guys 11 views and no replies. I searced the forum and saw that on the 4.7L the thermostat is on the bottom of the engine. Please tell me that mine isn't on the bottom as well? wehswarriorS-10 12-17-2005, 03:38 PM no, no, the 4.7 is in the bottom, but your 360 is where the upper hose goes into the engine...theres a water neck that sticks straight up and its under that, just like with any other engine, no quite sure what you will have to take off havent done one in a whille, but i know for sure thats where its at, just follow the upper hose into the engine and you'll find it...yeah 4.7's are backwards there's is in the lower hose mizzoudude1 12-17-2005, 03:50 PM Thank you. I thought that is where it was. I traced the upper hose into the engine block and assumed that is where it was but I wanted to make sure before I started ripping stuff apart. Thank you for your help. cbreeze191 12-17-2005, 06:01 PM The thermostat is located just under the alternator on 5.9's. You'll have to remove the serpentine belt and at least tilt up the alternator, if not remove it. mizzoudude1 12-18-2005, 11:21 AM Are you sure about the alternator. By the way mine looks there are two maybe 12MM bolts holding the thermostat housing to the block and I can access it without moving the belt or the alternator. cbreeze191 12-18-2005, 12:20 PM Yeah you can definitely acces the bolts, but it might be a little bit hard to pull the housing. And you want to have a little room to get your hands in, without dropping dirt and grim in there. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
