1968 gto ignition

i have a 68 gto and when i got the car it had a jumper switch on the purple igniton wire that had to be used to start it.now i can get the ignition to turnover from the key but it wont start.it clicks like it wants to start when i let the key back into ignition 1 but it wont start.when i use the jumper switch it strarts right up.how can i fix this?it has a elctronic distributor if anyuone can help i would be very very apprecitave thank u.

If the purple wire is under the dash, that's the park / neutral lockout switch. On an auto, it's on the column. On a 4sp it's on the tranny. Hope that helps.
