RPMs drop when reved real high?00 grn am 3.4L

Everytime i try to burn a little rubber in my 00 grand am 3.4L coupe.I floor the gas in netural and the rpms reach about 3/4 of the way to the red, then just cut out !Kinda like governer is installed and if so where?

You are hitting the rev limiter. It is designed to prevent you from damaging the engine if it revs too high. It is programmed into the computer, it can be changed by reprogramming but with a stock engine it is not a wise thing to do.

That's correct. In nuetral or park, the rev limiter is set to 4500 rpms I believe. In drive, however, when the engine is actually engaged and under load, the rev limiter doesn't kick in stock until 5800 rpm. And like GTP Dad said, for example, the DHP PCM will increase it to 6000 rpm; not sure about in nuetral/park though.
