Identifying a D16?

I currently am trying to identify which type of D16 motor a friend of mine bought. I have narrowed it down to these three.

D16 y5
D16 y8
D16 z6

These are the only SOHC VTEC D16 series engines listed on any of the engine lists that I have seen. So how can I identify which one it is? If it helps it had what appear to be small dish pistons (or maybe flat tops not really sure as I don't have it in front of me) and a red VTEC valve cover. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no clue which version this engine is. As a side note does anyone know what the thing is worth with a transmission (manual I think) and wiring harness. The motor is complete less one piston which has vanished somewhere into the abyss that is my Dad's machine shop.

Sorry about the slow reply I got distracted. I have yet to find the number on the block. Where the hell is it? I have looked everywhere, Can someone tell whereabouts on the block it is located?

To the left of the exhaust manifold.. right below the radiator hose on the block.. u might have to clean off the area to see it..
