Was it cold out when this happened?

My the rear-right drum on my 2000 Windstar locked up after a long Thanksgiving drive through some rain/snow - and then a cold night. I believe some water must have gotten inside the drum and froze the mechanism (I checked the parking brake cable, which had a normal amount play/movement).

Since you loosened the adjuster, I'm suspicious that your parking brake cable is sticking. I'd check there first.

When you loosened the adjuster, did you also remove the drum? That would be a good opportunity to check for other problems.
