Hi Im fred from Holland. Have a 94 STS with the following trouble.

When shifted in D , it takes very long before car pics up SOMETIMES.
Its only in D and sometimes in 1 also. The R is perfect always.

BUT when it PICKS up it drives and shifts just fine ???.
Strange thing is. Sometimes no problems and then all of a sudden it happens again. Just like in the older car a torque converter is bad or
something.

What did i do found out till now:

A: Oil freshed , enough inside and i cleaned the two filters in the tranny.

B: Strange ? I can shift in the D without pushing in the shifterknob and
dont need to hit the brake pedal. Same in R but there : No brakepedal
needed but i DO need to push in shifterKnob. When in P i do need
both things to get it out ( Knob + pedal ) . I cant remember if this was always the case but is that normal ?

C: I found out that after removing the oilpan ( strange BTW that these trannys have no oil plugs to get oil out ? ) i saw some loose bolts around
the shifterplate ( the big shifterhouse were 10-12 bolts are in and a gasket is inbetween). I tightend them all a bit . But no salution. COULD IT BE THE GASKET THERE IS WASTED AND THATS THE PROBLEM ?
Or is it electric things ?

AGAIN when it goes in D car drives and shifts PERFECT !!!! HELPPPPP

PLEASE HELP . OVER HERE NO REAL CADDI SPECIALIST EXCIST..and its just like searching for apes on the north pole....

Fred, 1st is this a modern hemi or refers to something from the 60's? You should have the trans scanned for slippage errors, exactly what was loose in the pan and did you torque the VB screws with an inch lb torque wrench? If those bolts were really loose, there probably was an internal pressure loss that might have damaged a clutch pack.

Hi ! Its not a Hemi engine but an Cadi STS engine + tranny.

The bolts that were loos , are from the big aluminum plate ( i think
thats the part were the oil rund threu the lines).I have tightend them
no but problem still exist. STRANGE thing is sometimes when put in
D or 1 it goes direct sometimes it doesnt and takes about 15 secs
and reving high, before it drives of.

Thanks sofar !

More than likely this is an internal trans problem.

Try to pull codes by simultaneously pushing the off and warm buttons on your climate control.

BEFORE IT HITS THE GEARS....

Fred, I am sure this is going to be internal but for code info go to caddyinfo.com for details on how to access any trans codes for addt'l diagnostic purposes.
