Ignition switch install problem

Installing a new ignition switch into my 97 blazer. I have found that at some point someone may have put an alarm or such in it. I dont use it, didnt even know it was there. Its not stock as its scabed in there. I dont want to re scab an unused alarm back in so if i by pass the wires from the new switch will that be ok. THey have the old switch wires cut and joined into other wires going into a relay. Bypass or not bypass?

The switch comes with a harness and a block at the end that plugs/bolts into another block of 3 connectors below the steering column. The two outside single row connectors just friction fit into the mating block. You should also have a two wire connector on the new assembly that will just dangle inside the column housing - this is some sort of optional connector that may be used for remote starter or ???

You should be able to remove the old hacked-up unit and install the new unit without distrubing any add-on items. The add-on items just won't work.

Yea I have the block of 3 connectors. I understand what they are all about. I just didnt like the fact that the wires in the main part of the switch (center connector wires) someone scabbed in wires to what I think is an alarm. The scabbed wires go from the main harrness to a relay. You think that I can just cap them off and it will be ok?

If your not sure that this in fact is a alarm relay and your not the original owner/ you don't know what was done prior. I would just remove the wire going to the relay and let it hung for now till you install the new ignition switch. If everything runs after you start up your truck. Then go ahead and remove the alarm relay and wiring. If not, reconnect the wire and re start your truck.

Here's what I would do.

On the Bad switch, cut the wires from the harness that have the boogered wires spliced into them, leaving this mess under your dash for now. Tape any bare wires.

Now install the new switch. If the truck starts, you've fixed the original problem.

If something ends up not working, or the truck doesn't start,splice the boogered wires into the new harness. The wire colors should be the same from old switch to new switch.
Remember, you can always remove the boogered stuff. :lol2:

Well I put in the new switch harness and now I just waitin gfo rthe battery to charge. I turn the key over and tried to shift out of park.............it did. I think the problem has been solved but I will have to wait a bit to see if this alarm deal is a new problem. So far all looks well. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Well all is good. New switch, blazer starts and runs great. Thanks Gabe25 your help is priceless. Couldnt have done it without you. Everyone else thanks too.
