The other day i was changing plugs and didnt think to unplug the negative when i was working near the altinator, after feeling like i had nearly shocked the crap out of myself and trembling in disbelief of the cloud of smoke that came out i had absolutely no idea what had fried, thinking quickly of corse i pulled the negative to stop the current.

Needless to say it blew something, when i put the key in and turn it it doesnt even make a sound

any suggestions as to what might have blown?

sounds like you probably smoked the fuse link. depending on the car, it may be near the starter solenoid. where did the smoke come from?
