Hey guys i was thinking about getting my 300zx painted, I was thinking of going with a nice orange or blue color, nothing flashy just something that is new and shinny, how much do you think it will cost, my car is a hunter green color now, and it doesnt have any dents or rust or anything, how much do you guys think im looking to pay if i took it to a normal body shop, a custom shop, or macco?

your help and input i greatly appreciated.
also if you guys have any opinions on colors please let me know.

THANKS,
Steve :naughty:

maaco like 2 or 300 bucks, but it'll last you for like a season... usually people get that if they just need a cheap alternative and they're about to sell their car... a good paint job'll run you like 2 or 3000 bucks... I was thinking that when I get my z and customize it, blue with gold stripes... maybe, but IDK how racing stripes or w.e. would look on a z...

any quality repaint is going to cost you a solid $2000 or more... unless the clearcoat is actually starting to peel or flake, just a good, maybe even professional detailing will get the paint looking like it's brand new again.... if you really want to make your paint look like new, take it into a professional detailing shop and pay the $100-200 for a full paint treatment... unless you have any deep scratches or fading in the paint, you won't be able to tell the difference between the detialing and a fresh respray... you'd be amazed at what some professional paint products can do

yeah, a good detail shop will buff out any minor scratches and use different chemicals to make it look new again. a good buff job will do wonders....

anyways, a good re-paint of the stock color will run $2-4k. to change the color will usually run even more if properly done.

maaco can actually do a decent paint job but that will cost just as much a taking it to a normal shop.

if you are really interested in repainting your Z but dont want to spend an arm and a leg. sand it yourself, then just have to the body shop primer, paint, and clearcoat. paint jobs cost so much because of the sanding process. it eats up $1500-$2000 worth of labor if properly done.

First of all, the cheap paint done by shops is usually crap. What I do is sand the car myself to remove practicaly all clear of the car, and maybe some of the base coat (by hand or sometimes by sander, but finish by hand). It takes around 12 arounds if there is no other oiece of shit paint on it. Usually most parts that are removable come off (most shops omit this step). Than you take it to a shop and do it for cash. I prefer to mask myself because they fuck up a lot. You can choose to lay some quality primer sealer (If you sanded deep and it has scratches), or just straight paint on it (If sanded with 600 grid paper-much like color-sanding). 2 options here: base and clear, or just single stage with no clear. Advatages of the first is that it shines nicely and lasts longer. I like single stage paint because when it fades you can always restore it even after 10 years, best for black cars (done it many times already), and you can easily shoot another coat to make it look good after some 5 years (cheap).
I recomend quality paint which is more expensive.
Choose the color you already have (no that blue to yellow crap, unless you take all the paint off which is not really needed). And when its done the magic begins. You color sand it and buff it-thats id what makes the oaint job look nice with no orange peel. (most shops wont even bother doing it since it takes a lot of hours) Last car i did- took 20 hours, but it was almost show-quality glass like finish. You need a rotary buffer and some eperience. remember 10% is how you shoot and the rest is straigtness of the panels (bodywork) and finish.

Most of work done by you
1 stage primer+ single stage paint $500
with no primer even cheaper

2 stage $600-$800

3 if you shoot paint directly on top of the old paint with minor sanding to make it stick $400.

My adbvice to you is that you dont want to invest $2000 in your car. Its easier to sell it and buy one that already had a pint job. pinting a car doesnt boost its value unless it has some serious problems. If you experience clea coat problems I recomend restoring it at first and maybe reclearing it which is real cheap, but makes the car look like new unless the paint is severly faded.

you can choose to remove paint completely, but its pretty expensive if done by shops. If they do all work it will be $1000-5000 depending on quality. I can produce a show quality paint for $1500 thats $5000 worth, because i do most of the dirty work.
