I was wondering about changes in upgrade from factory system to something that allows more HP from just output - I am not sure but N.C. does not inspect cars for emmissions after a certain year and was going to take out catalytic converter until I can install a larger system. Please give input of what I need to do.

well if you have an n/a than 2.5" exhaust from the DP back'll probly get ya around 5-10 HP, but if you have a turbo, a 3" exhaust from the DP back'll get you about 10-15 HP

n/a's dont have downpipes...just headers/exhaust manifolds. :D

sometimes the area between where the 2 mani's merge and the cat is considered a downpipe

i don't think stillen is even close to the best flowing exhaust for the z32... the hks is the best i think... least amount of bends out the back at least... not the best looking one tho.. for the z32 at least... i don't think there's a single company other than maybe monza that makes an exhaust for the z31 anymore...

North Carolina does do emissions testing all the way back to I think 83. After that year I am pretty sure all cars had to be fitted with a catylitic converter. (in the USA anyway) If they dont do a emissions test they WILL inspect to see if its still there. If its not there its a NO-GO. Just get a high flow cat, they aint that expensive and they wont hurt your performance much.

^ I agree with the high flow cat statement...

also, delerious, don't forget about Certified Muffler, or pace setter (IDK if pace setter is the same thing as Monza but yah)

pacesetter IS the same as monza...

and every company has a high HP rating for there aftermarket parts. but what you dont realize if they say it is dyno proven. this doesnt mean that without the performance part it could have been 100 degree weather with no fans blowing. then once they put the cat-back on, it could have been 30 degrees with an industrial HUGE fan blowing right on the radiator.

and HKS is probably one of the better flowing exhuasts for the Z32. but not to be mistaken with B&B and Labree...these also flow just as well.

and Georgy, there are so many options when it comes to exhaust that it would hard to be compare all of the options.

you have every name brand exhausts and then you have companies like B&B, labree, and stillen that offer several different options within each exhaust.

Labree - do you want resonators or not?
B&B - dual 3", dual 2.5", x-pipe, double y pipe, h-pipe
Sillten - round mufflers, oval mufflers, x-pipe, double y, h pipe

Thanks all - Very informative on the pipes - I like the idea of high flow cat - Will look into that at local shops on pricing and labor.
