Bigger Tires-Speedo Off 3MPHkmschna 12-06-2005, 07:17 PM I went from 255-65-15's to 265-75-15's and now the speedometer is off 3 MPH. Dealer wants $125 to reprogram. Does any one know a more economical method. 3 is not a big diff but it can make the difference btwn getting down the road or paying a ticket. BTW. The bigger tires look and drive much nicer on this 2wd. tsmurphy72 12-06-2005, 08:54 PM You should look into an aftermarket programer. Looking through CHP, JET Performace offers one that lets you Calibrate Speedo and many other things. www.jetchip.com. There are probably other companies that offer these. They may be more than $125 but you will be able to make changes in the future. Good Luck bigbadram51 12-06-2005, 09:00 PM All those companies are great, and can do the speedo reprogram. I would advise for you to go with a Nelson tune over the jet, superchip, hypertech. Def the way to go, lots of us on here have Nelson tunes and love em to death. Take a look at www.Nelsonperformance.com GMMerlin 12-06-2005, 09:27 PM Lets see Nelson tune $375-525 Superchips $465 Hypertech $399 Dealer $125 You decide BlenderWizard 12-06-2005, 10:01 PM Lets see Nelson tune $375-525 Superchips $465 Hypertech $399 Dealer $125 You decide Of course, all you're getting with a dealer reprogram is a corrected speedo. I second the Nelson tune. Save that $125 and buy a tune later. jethro_3 12-07-2005, 05:20 AM Lets see Nelson tune $375-525 Superchips $465 Hypertech $399 Dealer $125 You decide Choose wisely Grasshopper! :naughty: misfitt006 12-07-2005, 10:19 AM I think your dealer is trying to take you for a ride (which is no big surprise at all). I went from 265's to 285's and my local dealer said they would calibrate my speedo for $40 and it would take about 15-30 min. I would ask around town before making a decision. I personally decided to wait for my nelson tune....... jeverett 12-07-2005, 11:01 AM I second the Nelson Tune. There are cheaper tunes out there, but I'm not mentioning them. my 285's make my speedo right on the money with the factory size programmed in the PCM Oh...tell your dealer to FO Nigel215 12-07-2005, 11:03 AM if your looking for nothing more that to get the speed-o fixed, I would say go with the dealer. But if you plan on doing some mods to your truck or just want a little more performance or better gas mileage, get a nelson tune. JCL82 12-07-2005, 06:45 PM Can someone give me a link to a nelson tune , what exactly is it and what does it do . BlenderWizard 12-07-2005, 07:13 PM www.nelsonperformance.com Basically, it is a reprogram of the vehicle's computer (PCM). More power and better gas mileage are the results. cgspies 12-07-2005, 07:53 PM I don't see why you'd spend the money to get your speedo reprogrammed. So now you know it's 3 mph off. Just keep that in mind. I went from the stock 245X75XR16 donuts on mine up to 265's and am off a couple mph at 70. So I just keep it down a couple under 75 and pass right by all them nice super troopers sitting there. It's been that way for me for about 70,000 miles now. As an added bonus, it also keeps your mileage down a bit. I figured my tires to be about 3% larger so that translated to about 3,000 miles less on the odometer after the 100,000 mile mark. jeverette, How'd you stuff those 285 under her? I tried on my 2500 HD and even with twisting the torsion bars up they rubbed in turns too much for me to listen too. Chris DustinTM 12-07-2005, 08:08 PM I have hypertech, did not research anything...just got what the shop had in stock...not too impressed with it but it did correct my speedo for 415 dollars. Just my 2 cents! I recommend saving some money and going to the stealership if you just want the piece of mind knowing that your speedo is correct. Sonny01 12-07-2005, 08:19 PM I have a SuperChips and it let me reprogram for larger tires and since I use the truck to tow I can bounce back and forth between the towing program and the performance one. Just my .02 worth. Rollingbones 12-08-2005, 02:20 AM Hmmm. I got a Hypertech back in July and am happy with it. I only paid $300 locally. I adjusted my tranny, adjusted for wheel size and a couple of other things. It helped. I'm sure though a Nelson tune is more effecient. However, I decided on the Hypertech since it gives me the capibility to change/alter/correct my settings at a moments notice as opposed to waiting for a new module anytime I need to make an adjustment. Werks fer me!!! :screwy: jeverett 12-08-2005, 01:09 PM jeverette, How'd you stuff those 285 under her? Chris Just mounted them up and never had a rubbing problem in 5 years :D I have turned my bars though..And I know for a FACT that if you run wider rims, they will rub like all hell. cgspies 12-08-2005, 05:54 PM Just mounted them up and never had a rubbing problem in 5 years :D I have turned my bars though..And I know for a FACT that if you run wider rims, they will rub like all hell. Ahhh, well that's it. The ones I got called to be mounted on a wider rim. I guess I could have shoved them on the stock ones but I wanted new ones too.
