which would you rather have?? the E30 is lighter and more like a go kart on steriods. the E36 is more powerful but heavier. still a fast car but the E30 is a better track car. the E46 is even more powerful but even more heavy. i'm not sure which one i would take. the E36 probably looks the best(IMO) but the E30 is a better track car. the E46...i'm not sure what its best at.

I think the E36 is better overall

i love the e30... especially modded ones... there is one that was in european car that had 19in white rims and it was civic si blue... hella sweet car... and imagine if you put an e46 motor in it... hmm... endless options, and a large inability to drive in a straight line if the throttle is cracked open

whoops i meant to say i think the E46 is best overall

I like the E46 best, it's newest and I like new things. It is by far the most technologically developed and I think the best looking, as for mods, E30's and E36's a far better.

gang$tarr
08-04-2001, 11:49 PM
i must agree :) i also like new things

I'd take the E36 no question, it's powerful it's lighter than the E46 and you have way more possibilities to upgrade it. For the E30 nice thing but not my style.:bandit:

gang$tarr
08-05-2001, 12:40 PM
the E46 is like a whole second quicker 0-60...... and i'm sure bmw has improved on the E36 alot with the E46... they have to it's a newer one :D

E36 for looks, and it's still pretty damn fast.

E46 is the best. It's the most thrilling, and the best drivers BMW to date.

WELL...HMMM....
do you guys know anything about the e30 though? they are 80s cars... do you know what they look like even?
i dont mean to be rude, but hey, everyone is all about the e46 b/c it is in the now... what about the past?
the power doesnt matter. power to weight matters. the e30 was awesome. i would rather have that.
i dont think they have the same snooty appeal as the new ones, and you would know its an m3... the new ones are a bit understated....
ah well... `

my computer was going crazy so i couldn't use it for about a week so that's why i haven't been around. i know you guys missed me....ya. i'm still not sure what i would take. the e30 is probably my choice. as flylwsi was saying, do you guys even know about the e30?? but flylwsi....that's not an M3 in your pic. that's just a modded 3 series.

flylwsi
08-11-2001, 08:22 AM
well...
i do apologize...
i guess i thought it was an m3, afterall, it does have a 99 m3 motor in it...
either way, i wanted to show the body style... my point is there...

I know pretty well what the E30 models look like my friend got one (325 convertible) and I can drive it from time to time. the convertible looks awesome! the closed version is shitty for those who sit in the back row and are taler then 1.7m:bloated: :bandit:

08-11-2001, 10:10 PM
hey fly... ok, i was just letting you know. that does look real nice. a 99 M3 motor!!! i bet that thing hauls big time!!!!

my brother has an E36 M3 and an E30 325is and i get to ride in both of them pretty often. the M3 is way more powerful, but once he gets his good tires and suspension in on his E30, it will probably handle better than the M3.

gang$tarr

i don't really like old cars.... not into them, i like the sound of newer cars.... i think old cars sound like they're gunna fall apart
just my opinion though.... i totally respect people that love older cars

sidenote - I just saw an E46 BMW M3 convertible, it was yellow and beautiful!!!! i don't really like convertibles but when i saw that one i was just like DAMN!!

flylwsi
08-15-2001, 10:35 PM
an e30 m3 doesnt fall in the old car category. especially the one i posted about with the 99 m3 motor. hmm... an m3, if treated properly, will handle equally, whether it is an e30 36 or 46... and they dont sound like they are going to fall apart. you need to ditch the negative attitude about old cars. go to a concours de legance... do those old cars sound like they are gonna fall apart?
not like this has anything to do with the topic, but the thread did not ask your opinion on old cars...
just which one you think would be your fave m3

gang$tarr
08-17-2001, 07:47 PM
WTF???? i said it was just my opinion and that i totally respect your opinion if you like old cars........ that's no negative attitude!! an E30 in my opinion looks and sounds like an older car, and yes that does fit in to this topic

S Brake
08-17-2001, 08:40 PM
gang$tarr, it's ok, he bit my head off in the other thread about the turbo or GT3, i think someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed!!!!

flylwsi
08-18-2001, 08:46 AM
i did not bite heads.
damn.
fact of the matter is that i explained my point.
if you dont like how i explained it, hell, thats fine and dandy.

the reason i said that is b/c you said old cars sound like they are going to fall apart. there are tons of old cars that sound healthier than anything out now...
and there are tons of new cars that are rattletraps...
i dont mean to offend, but hell, read what you said, then read my response. i dont say things like that for no reason.

Porsche
08-18-2001, 11:12 AM
IMO, I think that Gan$tarr deserved some of that cause he did imply that old cars are unnreliable, but Flylwsi, you did post a whole reply on how Gan$tarr should resvise his OPINION so I think a little"Don't Bash old cars" would have been alright.

gang$tarr
08-19-2001, 03:22 PM
fly i think YOU should re-read what i wrote, not me! I said that i think that old cars are soudn like they're gunna fall apart, in my opinion!! fuck, i can have my own opinion...... i like how a civic sounds now better than how an old mustang sounds.... i just don't like the old car sounding engine..... holy hell

like in the fast and the furious, the old car i'll admit sounds good for it's age, but i think the supra sounds better..... i just don't like the loud old sounding engines

I CAN HAVE AN OPINION CAN'T I??????

a car that sounds like it is going to fall apart vs an old car that is well maintained... two different things.
old cars dont sound like they are going to fall apart, if they are well maintained. that is what i am talkin about. i hate beaters too. but i love old cars as much as new ones...
feel free to have an opinion, but you DID group all old cars into the "sounding like they are going to fall apart category"

hermunn123
08-20-2001, 06:35 PM
i'm gonna have to agree with fly on this one. you did say all old cars sound like they're going to fall apart. that is not true at all. an E30 M3 sounds real nice. and i bet a 328, 308, or any "old" ferrari sounds nice as well.

gang$tarr
08-23-2001, 12:52 AM
no i said in my opinion they sound like they're gunna fall apart..... i respect how they sound good to somebody else, I think i was a little extreme there though..... just quote me on this: I like how new cars sound, better than older cars. Okay?

btw one of my friends dads has a Ferrari 328 some special edition i forget what it's called.... it's pretty sweet, and i do think it sounds pretty good too, but i like the sound of a new Ferrari better
his dad lets him drive the Ferrari around, that bastard!! :D

irony struck me when i re read this...
the car in the fast and the furious... the charger.
hmm .... old car... yeah. but i know for damn sure that the motor is maybe a year old built like that...
alot of nice old cars have motors that were built oh, recently.
they usually have new parts with new blocks. essentially new motors. so why not like the sound of an "old" motor if it is new?

09-15-2001, 11:25 PM
Well, the M1 was amazing, 30 Years ago, it's still probably pretty good today, about a 250Hp I-6 but, there very, very rare, like less than 500! and the M3 gadgetry and performane enhancements out anything else than maybe an 850ci. BMWwise. (Not counting the M5 or M roadster which could be interesting?)

E30 and E36 are no match against E46. The only car that would make this comparision interesting is M1.

i would have to disagree. its all a personal preference but the E30 can made into a great racecar. the E36 looks awesome. the E46 has the latest gizmos and gadgets and better performance. the E46 M3 vs. M1 would be a good comparison, so make one if you want.

that was posted by gang$tarr in another forum talking about getting an "old" car. btw gang$tarr, the E30 M3 is a '91 as well....

i was talkin about a freakin Ferrari F40.... that's a little different!!!!

any person that doesn't like the F40, should be shot in the head right now :D

the main thing i was talkin about the older cars here is, i don't like how they sound but an F40 sounds awesome!

hermunn123
10-03-2001, 07:59 PM
well you did say you hate old cars. IMO anyone who doesnt like the E30 shouldn't be killed but should be beat severely. have you heard a M3?? they don't sound bad, thats for sure

gang$tarr
10-03-2001, 08:12 PM
i don't think i said i HATE how they sound... i think i said i hate how really old cars sound, like 70s cars. I just said that i don't like the sound of the E30 as much as the newer ones
i think i just said i like how newer cars sound better than older cars

i might be wrong though.... i have a horrible memory

Porsche

According to me (Dr. Ing Hcf Porsche Ag) This is why you have a bad memory: Gan$tarr (Normal HB) + Drugs (eehhh) = Bad Memory+ 3x - 10-4/.47 Root of Y.

Got it?

flylwsi
10-04-2001, 12:08 AM
well... i guess it comes down to engine size, doesnt it gangstarr?
do you like the sound of a cubic monster v8, (5.0 or more), or do you like little motor sounds, vtec, or small displ high rev cars?
b/c the sound of the cars of the 70's and prior are no different than a 5.0 stang on the street, which is not old, or a street truck w/ a v8, not old, or a vette, still pushrod technology in some of those, not old. or a camaro or firebird, nice sounding pushrods, not old, but almost gone.
it seems that you dont like the sound of a beater... but a well tuned v8 sounds awesome, this by your admission about an f40.
oh, yeah,
the cars of the sixties and seventies could rev too, there were vettes stangs and camaros that could rev to 7k easily, which is still pretty high...
e30 is sturdy, by the way, it was a race car before a road car.

flylwsi: comparing the E30 to E46... I like the sound of the E46 alot better. new cars just sound like, more technologically advanced, you know? I like that sound
i'm not puttin down any old cars

flylwsi
10-04-2001, 06:09 PM
i guess what im hearing is that you like the smoother variable cam sound... instead of having one wild cam, you get "two", or whatever works... vtec does that, and the ferrari and porsche motors have variable cams, and so does the bmw... so it sounds much smoother... i think that is what you are getting at...
i like a wild monster sound...

I would have to say that the E30 is this better car. With modded engines, such as the m50 transplant then upgrade you can't go wrong. Big Money Worries (BMW) as my dad says I have to agree with the M tag, but hey..... they are sweet. I am going to get an 88 M3 and drop a 3.2L then turbo it up... it'll all be good then...
hehehe.
however the E36 look sweet.

I guess if your talking about stock BMW m3's, the e36 or e46 might rape the e30 is acceleration. But i myself feel that the e30 is one of the best looking cars BMW has ever put out.
Obviously, a 4 banger isnt going to put out much for those looking for acceleation, although 200 isnt too shabby for the car's light weight. But an e36 M3 engine, or M50, can be put into any type of e30 for about 6 or 7 grand. If you want an e30 M3 in good condition, it may cost you around 20,000 dollars. That plus the engine swap is still plenty less than the type of money you would pay for an e36 or e46.
