ok just trying to figure this out here.

so the stock engine in my 86 crx si has a clicking noise coming from under the valve cover. that would be my lifters right?

and if so how do i fix it?

your rockers are probably just out of adjustment. you'll need a service manual and a set of feeler gages

make sure you have oil first... that'll make that noise too. if you do have oil it could be your lifters, or your valves. you can cheat, get a rubber malet and tap all of them with the valve cover off. this will tell you which one if knocking. (don't smack them just a gentle tap will do)
