Just had my oil pump replaced on my 5.3 Vortech hiway pressure was 40 psi and idleing was about 10 psi. If you have this problem and no knocking noise, chances are its the pump. Oh by the way 800 bones for the repair job using a $112.00 part!!!! :eek7:

The reason for the cost of the repair is the oil pump is located behind the timing cover.
The oil pan and timing cover have to be removed.

The 5.3 must have oil pump problems.I replaced one 5.3 with about 80,000 miles on it so far with an oil pump problem that the previous owner drove it that way.The rods were knocking in this one

I would have done it myself with some help. $1200 is 1/3 the price of a new engine

The only problem I have seen with oil pumps on 5.3 engines is the pick-up tube O ring will split and cause the lifters to tick when the engine gets warm..other than that, its been a good engine
