69 gto suspensionezsk8er66 12-01-2005, 07:20 PM i took my 69 out around the block today for the first time after some restoration and the back end seems to want to sway from side to side i was wondering if there is anything to help tighten up the feel off the car? thanks MrPbody 12-02-2005, 09:01 AM All of the "goodies" for the later ('70-'72) GTO bolt right in. The Olds 442 got the stuff a few years earlier. Most A-bodies had it by '70. The Grand Prix/Monte Carlo/Riviera also have the same pieces in the same years. You need the lower control arms and sway bar. This is usually a 3-piece "set". Hotchkiss and a few others offer aftermarket rear bars. Always a good thing, even on a drag car using the "stock" rear suspension. Replace the bushings in the rear axle case and the upper control arms. Poly-urethane bushings will tighten things up a lot. Some find them too "harsh". Stock replacement parts will work well for a decent ride quality. Moog offers "Cargo Coils". These are rear springs that retain ride height and add about 20% deflection in the spring. A good set of gas shocks will finish it out. Jim ezsk8er66 12-02-2005, 06:37 PM thanks alot for the ideas it will help me out alot ramairgto72 12-11-2005, 02:18 PM The "sway from side to side"s more likely bad shocks and springs, rather then dump a few grand into later year parts I would buy a good set of gas shocks and the HD springs for your car. If you plan on sewing the cones check into aftermarket upper and lower control arms front and rear. I hope the was a clearer answer. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
