This dang car only has 70k on it. It was running rough when I got it from the old guy. I put in new plugs, (old ones were seriously carboned up), new wires, cap, rotor. (And boy did these parts need replaced! )Cleaned throttle, installed new air filter, oil change.... It starts quickly, but idles very rough, and smells of gas out the exhaust. It revs up fine, and after it warms up, it does smooth out somewhat. I found a leaky water pump, so I am replacing it and also putting on a new timing belt. But, could the rough idle be caused by the O2 sensor maybe being carboned up? I have now replaced the O2 sensor, and it made no difference. Does anybody have any other ideas??? THANKS

Gas spoils realy quickly, if the car sat a while without being driven (3 months or more), the gas may be spoiled and contain a lot of condensation. If this is the case, draining the gas (or driving it out) and filling up will solve the problem. Hard telling what the real problem is until you test everything that could be wrong. Could be as simple as a vacuum leak.

Thanks!! The fuel light is on, so it is really low. I was going to put in a new fuel filter, and a tank of fresh gas with Seafoam. Go drive it a little hard, and try to blow out some carbon!!

Well, still bad. Looking for new ideas. I have replaced everything I mentioned earlier and also replaced the MAP sensor, code said it was bad. It runs down the road great after it is warm, but starting it cold is horrible. It starts right up, but kind of revs high and miss/sputters until you rev it up. Then it stays at high idle 3k, until you drop it in gear and go. Then it is fine. I am looking for any ideas!! THANKS
