What are you trying to ask? You could probably put a 2.0spi and turbo it if your asking how to get a lot of hp out of your escort.

i believe he is asking about his stock motor.

and a 2.0 spi swap requires a SHIT load of work. totaly different fuel systems.

The 2.0 SPI motor is set up to work in the Mazda platform (2nd and 3rd gen LX's) and not a true "Ford" Escort. Any ways, yes you can make power with a 89 1.9 lx. Install a HO head (and electronics), that drops the compression and has better head flow. Then boost the snot out of it.
