1996 Contour hard on fuelDerrick_Lyons1 11-29-2005, 10:51 PM OK, where do I start...... First my engine light came on, which is common in any contour for many reasons. I was getting a code telling me that there was a problem with the egr flow, so I changed the egr valve, light came back, then I changed the egr modulator, light came back, then changed the dpfe sensor, and light went out. This was quite expensive and I would suggest to start at the dpfe sensor if you come across this problem. The problem that I am having now is the fuel economy, it is really hard on fuel, it has new plugs and wires, new air filter, and I cleaned the MAF sensor. Any other suggestions of why this might be so hard on gas. Ciao corning_d3 11-30-2005, 01:05 AM One question.. did you disconnect the battery and let the PCM reset after changing each part? ppg960 12-09-2005, 07:23 PM Take the battery out of the car for an hour. This will erase the codes that have been stored in memory. Reconect the battery and take it for a ride. Does the engine light come on? How is the fuel economy? pre98zetec 12-09-2005, 07:33 PM removing the battery will no reset the PCM AFAIK, the only way i know how is to clear the KAM and that is to remove the #4 and #11 (or 13? I cant remember) fuse from the fuse panel under the hood of the car. Keep them out fora about 5 min and that will reset the computer. ppg960 12-09-2005, 09:53 PM Oh yes, your right. But I think it's fuse 7 and 11. beyondloadedSE 12-10-2005, 12:28 AM Take the battery out of the car for an hour. This will erase the codes that have been stored in memory. The battery doesnt need to be removed either. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
