can any one help me i want to remove my stock shift knob on a 98 cavalier not a z-24 juss a regular cav.. i pratically tore up all the rubber on the shifter but idk what im doing lol so can anyone help thanks

lol i have the same problem....what im planning on doing soon is just ordering a short throw shifter and it will replace the whole thing...its soposed 2 be a bolt on job so it should be easy 2 install myself...good luck tho

Dude jsut pull the C clip, if you cant get it, saw the rubber out until you can, then pull the C clip. Then go dah dah DAH!

i cant find the C clip or whatever i tore off allthe rubber around it but i cant find no C clip lol :banghead: :banghead:

i just found the c clip its under the boot look down where the ball joint is on the shifter and you will see it stickin out plane as day...im guessing thats what hes talkin about

it is just a piece of metal that looks like a big staple sorta.
When looking at it from the front of it... (Put it back in 2,4,R. and you should have a view of it.) Pull the shift boot down. You will see a little piece of metal amungst the rubber. I had to saw around it a little bit to get it with the needle nose. I don't recomend trying to reuse the C clip. Once you pluck it with your pliers or screwdriver or whatever, slide your shiftknob off. And use an air tool to cut about 4.5 inches of that bar off. :)

i still havent gotten it...is it under the rubber on the top or under the consol cuz i have a metal clip down their 2...should i cut the top off and how do i put a new shift knob on? just push it down overtop of it? or do they screw on?

all i see is a blue band around my knob....i cut it all appart
