I was given a small block motor and I am trying to figuare out which motor it is. The guy told me it was a 350 but I'm not sure. Here are the numbers that I have found on it.

35 GM 3970010

v0624tyc 25713

Please let me know if anyone can help.

Brotherchris,
I'm also researching an old 350 block (mine's from an early '80's truck). Your casting number 3970010 was used twice: In 1968 it was given to some 327's. Then from 1969-79 it was given to 350's. If you look at the heads between the rocker arms you should see a date for when the heads were cast - this might give you a clue as to when the engine was made. (assuming the heads are original).
Try looking at this web site:http://www.mortec.com/location.htm for more info.
Hope this helps

From the book I have on casting numbers, the code TYC was used on two different 350's. One was used on 75-76 C-10 & 1500 trucks 145 HP and came with a 2BBL carb. The other was used on 78 C-20 to 3500 truck, van, bus 165 HP and came with a 4BBL carb. Hope this helps.
